2nd place. LOL! We haven't played as many games as GCU or CSUB in the conference but whatever floats your boat. Just know the two "1st place" teams losses are both to the "3rd place" team thats 16-4 and a higher RPI and KenPom than both. LOL!

Can you relax for like half a second? The whole point of my post was to say it's cool seeing 3 teams in the conference doing so well. Also just realized my math was wrong and Aggies should be tied for first at the end of the evening on Saturday. Loser of GCU/CSUB likely fall to 3rd place in the standings.

True statement Dancing. However, it seems like that should be more concerning for NMSU fans rather than something to hold over GCU and CSUB. The Aggies already have a loss to a team other than GCU/CSUB since GCU and CSUB have only lost to NMSU at NMSU. If all three teams hold their home courts then NMSU finishes with 3 losses while GCU & CSUB end with only 2. Not saying this is what is going to happen, just saying that your logic seems a bit flawed.

NMSU ended UVU's 22 game home winning streak. Once, GCU and/or CSUB beats UVU on their court, then GCU/CSUB can speculate about finishing ahead of NMSU. Right now, NMSU is 3-1 on the road and 2-0 at home. We still have 6 home games and four road games; two of which are at Chicago State and UMKC... The week of Feb. 7th and 9th is very important to NMSU/GCU/CSUB for the conference race. But GCU and CSUB still have the hurdle of playing each other twice and playing at Utah Valley... and depending on the return of Matej Kavas, Seattle U. might be no pushover either.

If GCU beats CSUB in Bakersfield next Saturday, then I think it will come down to the NMSU at GCU game on February 9th for the regular season title. Even though there would still be plenty of conference games left, I just think NMSU and GCU are the two best teams in the WAC.

I’d agree that they’re the 2 best teams. GCU has stepped up a lot this year, this is easily their best team they have had. It great for a competitive WAC but at the same time this is the most nervous I’ve been.

I wouldn't think there is a ton for Aggie fans to be nervous about. 6 of the last 8 games are at the PanAm, and the 2 road games (UMKC & CSU) may be the easiest of the conference slate - on paper. In contrast, CSUB might have the toughest close to the WAC season with 5 of 6 on the road, including stops at UVU and GCU. No matter their record coming out of that stretch, the Runners should be battle hardened and ready for 3 days in Las Vegas. GCU also closes with two tough ones on the road, at Seattle U and UVU.

All things considered, it really wouldn't/shouldn't be all that surprising to see NMSU finish atop the conference again when it's all said and done. If Aggies can make it through Feb. 7th and 9th clean, the WAC regular season title is all but theirs to win or lose.

"IF" GCU can beat CSUB in Bakersfield, it will put pressure on NMSU to gain at least a split on the CSUB/GCU road trip to have a chance at winning the WAC regular season.

They aren't complaining about their being drunk ppl at the UMKC game. There are complaints on how UMKC admin flew these guys in put them behind the Seattle U bench and would belligerently drunk yelling personal obscenities to the players and to the coaches. Apparently the UMKC admin after being alerted about it encouraged it and felt it was all in good fun apparently. Again this is one side of the story but why would those connected to Seattle U make this up?

For those of you, like me, wondering about all this flying drunk fans to the game stuff:

There's a lot more to than being drunk. The Seattle U complaints to the league office are that UMKC placed those fans directly behind the SU bench when the row directly behind them was to be used for staff and SU fans. UMKC ignored SU requests for security during game because the paid-fans interfeared with the SU radio call multiple times during the game and would touch players/distract the huddle when these fans were on the court for entertainment during timeouts. UMKC gave these fans access to donor-only bar and then placed the "student section* behind SU.

What's being said around SU is when the WAC talked to both schools today they sided with SU on some issues and are not happy with UMKC for putting the paid-spirit section behind SU after liquoring them up, ignorging security requests after media and players were interfeared with while denying SU staff/traveling fans the rows directly behind team bench.

These are all SU allegations and nothing was mentioned about the affecting outcome of the game. I can't see UMKC getting more than a warning about this. If anything can be said public I get the impression SU will, this issue is already behind handled by the ADs and conference. I emailed Jeff Hurd tonight and others at the WAC some questions to see what they say about Mondays meeting.

As for the game itself, gotta hand it to UMKC. That was a collapse by SU.

Four of the 7-man rotation were hurt for this game, so SU was at a disadvantage. Still, when you're up 10 with 7 min left, no excuse for giving up a 26-7 run with four turnovers. I expected it to be a lot worse honestly. UMKC is a very underrated team. After the 1-7 start they have been playing better than I've ever seen in their WAC days. Besides GCU and Milwaukee, they've done nothing but impress me. They aren't at WAC Championship level but they can hang with anybody.

Gotta say though, paying fans to make a fake student section and create a false sense of fandom is embarrassing, I don't care how bad my team gets don't pay fans to be there. That's my trash talk speal for this one

RE: WAC basketball week 12
Attached is the stats of Seattle U during conference play when injuries hit in the last non Conference game and have only gotten worse and worse. They are a fraction of what OOC looked like

Seattle U got hosed by Injuries right when conference play began. Could make a 6-man rotation work last year being lucky with health. This year, one injury and everything fell apart. Now down to 4 of their usual 7-man hurt for extended time. Myles Carter and Morgan Means have been forced to play through injuries they'd usually sit too. Means had to have stiches put in around his eye twice during the UTRGV game after they drained fluid so he could see out the eye.

The SU starting 5 can play with anyone in the WAC. The bench has 2 players with D1 experience, part of the reason SU subbed less than anyone in D1 during November and December. We overlooked this issue with how no injuries last year made the 6-man work and. 12-3 OOC with zero injuries and, while the intention was there with four Pac 12 teams, ending up with a weak non conference slate.

To make matters worse is Morgan Means being a liability for all but 3 half's of WAC ball so far. His numbers are a shell of what they were in OOC and it all started the first game Kavas missed vs CSUB.

But this entire team comes back next year and the plan appears to be add two grad transfers. While the bench is young and inexperienced this year, they'll be better next year and be 9-10 guys deep every game with 2 GTs. Even if Kavas leaves a grad transfer himself

We all knew 2019-20 was the target year with this team, 12-3 inflated record OOC made us think it would come a year early.

Exactly, seemed everyone was high on them on preseason and ooc play.

Yeah, I think everyone here thought Seattle U had the talent to contend right away. The Redhawks have just been hit with injuries and early defections.

You all need to think about this logically.
SU played a 6 man rotation last year and was an injury away from disaster. It never happened.

Same situation this year. Hayford knows it. He subs literally the least amount of any D1 school in Nov Dec because of it. But then between conference play and literally in last OOC game, you have injuries hit hard and fast. So far now we're at:

Kavas miss 4-6 weeks
Grigsby miss 2-3
Means play through eye injury
Myles Carter forced to play first 3 WAC games hurt
Delante Jones missing games with leg
(Thats 4/5 starting line up)
Aaron Nettles, 6 man, miss time
Hopkins and Rip Economou miss games with flu

This team has two guys on the bench who have ever played a D1 game. The rest are JUCO transfers and freshman. Part of rebuilding a roster

Seattle U was only as strong as their starting lineup. That's gone now and won't he back till end of February. Played vs UMKC without 4 of main 7 guys. Played more walk ons vs Chicago State than scholarship guys.

Next year, even if Kavas leaves as GT, Hayford will use open scholarships for two more grad transfers. Depth gets another year younger, 9-10 wins. We all thought SU would be good and most of the time us, myself included, failed to account for a logical hole in the team. 1 injury away from disaster as there is no experience at all on the bench (let alone Hayford didn't play them in OOC to get any). But we also were shooting for 2019-20 when this roster all come back another year older and with help.

Look at the SU WAC-only stats I posted above. It's tragic how bad this has gotten

It’s one of the better memories I have of CSU. Somehow.. someway winning that game at UMKC, and especially the way they did it

I watched the game on the WAC DN. The atmosphere seems better at Swinney (apart from drunk guys from Vegas). They were getting about 1000 to the Muni (which holds 9700). From what I could tell, there was little atmosphere. I felt sad for the players in a 90% empty building. On Saturday they had 1220 for Seattle in Swinney that holds 1500. It was loud; there was energy. I saw students, families. Plus they are saving $250,000 in rent. If the new AD can dress up Swinney like he did the "Matadome" at CSU-Northridge, that would help, too.

BTW: I know UMKC administrators did a study about athletics. It raised the possibility of leaving d1. But I guess the hiring of the former AD from Northridge signals they are staying d1. There's no way he travels half way across country to be AD at a d2 program. Right?? Has any official word or decision come out yet, or are we still reading tea leaves?
