WAC basketball week 12
On Thursday...
Utah Valley @ UM Kansas City
Seattle U @ Chicago State
Cal State Bakersfield @ Cal Baptist

On Saturday...
Utah Valley @ Chicago State
Seattle U @ UM Kansas City
Grand Canyon @ Cal Baptist
New Mexico State @ UT Rio Grande Valley

Will Seattle U get its first conference win?
Will Cal Baptist surprise either of the conference leaders?
Will UMKC get back on its winning track?
Will NMSU rack up another road win?

Seattle gets a win. UMKC gets a win. NMSU wins a close game on the road. UTRGV has been competitive. If CBU gets a win, I would think CSUB would be their best chance. CSUB is not explosive offensively and unlike UMKC, CBU leads the WAC in free throw shooting. Grand Canyon will be a fun game, with two old rivals getting back together. But I think GCU has better talent and they should get the win.

You guys have been in several games. I thought for sure you were gonna knock off Bako. I like your coach and think he could eventually turn things around.

RE: WAC basketball week 12
I watched Bakersfield vs. CBU. Came down to the last possession. Bake wins by 4 points: 88 - 84. Bake was stronger in the paint and had a guard Joiner go off for 34 points, announcers said it was his career high.

For a team in its 1st year of transition to d1, CBU impressed me. I know they were a very good d2 team. They don't have far to go to be a good d1.
CBU looks to be a great pickup for the WAC.

RE: WAC basketball week 12
Seattle U gets the needed win but sounds like the season will continue to go down hill. Adding to crippling Matej Kavas and Riley Grigsby injuries (2-3 more weeks each), FOUR more players were lost to likely injury. We do not know how serious or how much time they will miss. Starter Delante Jones and 6th man Aaron Nettles traveled with the team but didn't play. Freshman Trey Hopkins and Rip Economou are not in team pics of Chicago and did not play.

Seattle U beat Chicago State with just three normal starters and three backups (two walk ons) in a 6-man rotation. Hundal and Burke came up big, but neither have played much at all this year so how they do vs better teams we don't know

I just got back from the game and it was entertaining. CBU played a four guard lineup and got killed on the boards and inside. It did help with the full-court pressure defense that CSUB likes to play. It was 87-84 with less than 30 seconds and they got a couple of shots from three to tie it but missed. Milan Acquaah had another good game with 27 points, six assists and five steals. Joiner took advantage of the small lineup and just took it to the basket. CBU needs more depth and a little more size.

I respectfully disagree. CBU has bigs and when they were in there they were dominating. I thought Croy screwed up by taking them out. I know he was worried cause Bakos bigs were hot from the 3 point line but Bako had no answer for the inside bigs of CBU. As an Aggie fan really was pulling for CBU. Mildly disappointed with CBU. Since beating the Aggies they have blown two home games that they should have won. Really pulling for them now vs. GCU this weekend.

I will respectfully disagree as well. Croy was not worried about the Bako big men, at least not from three point range. CBU had a 22-13 lead with about ten minutes left in the first half. CSUB went to a full court press and CBU did not handle it well. The Runners do an excellent job of playing pressure defense. Over the next eight minutes, the Runners outscored CBU 30-14 to take a 43-36 lead.

The four guard lineup worked offensively and CBU did a better job with the press, but defensively it did not go well. Joiner had layup after layup. The Runners had 45 rebounds, 23 on the offensive boards. It was a pick your poison game.

CBU has 6'11" Zach Pirog and he is a good player, but he averages about 15 minutes per game. He has never played over 20 minutes in a game. Either foul trouble or endurance. But he is 2nd in the WAC in blocked shots and easily the best per minute shot blocker in the WAC. He is also not a ball handler. which was needed last night. For most of the game, they played with Davis as their lone big man and he is 6'7".

This is CBU's first season. They compete, but they do have their limitations. Milan Acquaah was the one guard that seemed to be able to handle the pressure defense that the Runners played. Jordan Heading struggled with it. He had seven turnovers. They need another good ball handler at the forward position and at guard. They need another big man to go with Pirog.

Really?? 48 points in the paint (vrs 28 on the other end for CBU?) Second chance even at 13 each.

I know you're not a 'Runner fan, Dancing, but....c'mon. Give the credit where its due if you're gonna weigh in.

In the CSUB/CBU game, the runners out rebounded the Lancers 45-30. More so, the Roadrunners dominated the offensive boards 23-10. Croy decided to play a small line up but that cost him late in the game. With 1:04 in the game and CBU down 84-87, the Lancers fouled James Suber. Suber missed both free throws but CSUB managed to get the ball back off a deflection out of bounds by Rowell. Rather than play his small line up, if Croy had brought in a second big man with the sole purpose off getting the rebound, CBU might have had a good chance of getting the ball with at the 1:04 mark rather than allow CSUB run clock down another 30-plus seconds.

Keep in mind, NMSU also out rebounded CBU 46-35. And, dominated the offensive glass 26-6. But that night, the Aggies couldn't buy a basket; shooting 31.1% for the game.

Good points. I think Croy was probably surprised that Suber missed both free throws and Rowell has to grab the rebound. CBU also had no timeouts left, so he could not substitute for the big man.

CBU had the ball with two minutes left with the score 87-84 and missed four three pointers that could have tied the game, two in the last 30 seconds. They rushed the shots a bit. The Runners were guarding the three point line well, the lane was open and I think they could have gotten a layup or two foul shots if they just took the ball to the basket. 87-86 is better than 87-84 at that point in the game. Force them to make their free throws.

We got Chuha-d with 6 seconds left. 0-14 against NMSU in the WAC. At least you had to work for this one.

Utrvg played great defense tonight overall. Kept it close all night. I think I disagree with the flagrant call against Ivan. I didn't see anything flagrant there.
