QB Shootout at the OK Corral?
I know this is Childers team but I feel with the new staff every position is getting re-evaluated meaning there may be an open competition.
Also, I hear there is a new QB transfer in town from U of I. Drake Davis.

Childers, Thompson, J Wright, Hall and Davis may all be shooting it out for the top gun.

They’ll all be starting from scratch since they’ll be learning a new system. Do you know anything about this Drake Davis? I think Hall should definitely switch positions. He can run but can’t hit the broad side of the barn.

Just know he was a heck of a player at Naperville North.

Was a walk-on at Illinois. Had a schollie to EIU. Dual threat. 5' 11".

This is what is so damn hard about college athletics. Which of these is better for a kid? Now he's had no experience at Illinois, and has to hope to break into a new school and program (and maybe after sitting out a year) and only has three years of playing time left.

No real good answers and it's not my place to judge, but in my slightly informed opinion too many kids have a tough time accepting that they are EIU material, not UI material. One would have a better experience as a scholarship starter at an EIU than as a walk-on bench warmer at an Illinois.

J Wright....will get serious consideration, as well as an improved Childers. I'm not a fan of Childers , but he'll played great in Championship game, if new coaches can squeeze that out of him every week he will be tough to unseat.

I would love for there to be a better option than Childers, I just don’t think there is. Need to hope he improves under the new staff.

And unless he gets a waiver for some reason, Davis has to sit a year.

Mariano Valenti was omitted from this. Include him in the chase as well.

I will be shocked if a true freshman (who I believe was a backup on St Thomas this year) beats out Childers

Yeah he transferred there to be a back up. Until you get him in and see where he is at, 2018 was lost year

Probably never heard of Sean Payton, Tony Romo or Jimmy Garappolo.

All 6'2 plus and could wing it, and stayed at same school

RE: QB Shootout at the OK Corral?
Childers went from a freshman who could not hit the broad side of a barn to a sophomore who had flashes of brilliance, showing poise, making some difficult throws, etc.

If he can continue to improve and become more consistent I think we could be a real QB.

Both years he had one hand tied behind his back, and that was coach Carey

All too often Childers got confused and thought he was playing basketball. A bounce pass is not a successful football play. Doubt if that was a coaching failure.

Childers did play an excellent game when it counted most, lets see if he can play at a high level consistently next year. Perhaps a new QB coach can help.

Having ****** receivers did not hurt either. When Wesley is your best, you got issues.

And a coach that can teach how to run route. Tired of seeing rounded cuts / breaks.

New Years resolution for MD. Don’t use the word Carey again in 2019. Bet you can’t do it.

I thought he played relatively decent in the bowl game too.
