I really dont want to see reviews on every play. NFL just needs to hire better officials and also dont mandate officials to try and generate preferred matchups

Doesn't have to be every play, you can still limit the amount of reviews per game, you just open up more of what they can be used as.

We’d have a Saints/Chiefs Super Bowl otherwise.

LA/NE population 13 and 5 million.

hmmmmmm05-stirthepot

100% this. As a Chiefs fan I knew this would happen before the game even started. The NFL is a business, its all about money. BS

Idk why they just don’t let reviews be controlled by a separate monitoring group who has immediate access to every camera shot. As a tv viewer we know within 10 seconds after the play is over if there is a suspect call because of replay. A monitoring group could just notify them immediately that there is a play that needs review. Perfect example....the phantom blow to the head of Brady. That took 2 seconds to determine.

Take it out of the refs hands for reviews. Let people with big, hd monitors determine these calls.

I'm tired of the constant replays. The refs get only a handful of plays wrong a game. Humans are fallible and that's part of what makes sports interesting.

It’s when they get them wrong that needs correcting. It’s also the process they use that is too time consuming. Too many teams have had a clear victory taken away because of a blatantly bad call. Fans understand those 50/50 calls that can go either way. But an obvious mistake denying a team a super bowl is unacceptable. Just stream line the process and take it out of the refs hands. They’re like a legislative body that slow down the process.

On the positive side, his replay might turn out to be the most replayed highlight of this season. Can we get some NIU advertising somewhere on his uniform?

PI aside, that was "helmet to helmet" targeting.

Frankly, he should have just laid there and not gotten up. ( I understand he was as surprised as anyone there wasn't a yellow flag nearby.) Maybe they would have thrown a late flag.

Every pass play looks like interference in slow motion. This would be such a mistake to open this up for review, too much of a judgment thing. Just hire competent officials

Anything not BLATANTLY missed would not be up for review. Im not suggesting it's for every play. Not talking about holding calls. Not ticky-tack PI calls. Im talking about critical plays. You know the ones. The tv shows them to you 5 times in a row as the announcers try to point it out. Then they go to their own TV official for his view. Just like they did with TLL. Just like they did with Brady.

When referees alone make or dont make the call and it's a bad one....what happens? The "NFL is fixed!" conspirators come out. It would remove that as well. Or help to.

Was checking out the new AAF Pro football league that starts this weekend. Some of the rule differences to the NFL were pointed out. Here's one I like :"The ninth official on the crew will be in the press box and can correct “obvious and egregious” officiating errors, including pass interference in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter"

huh, what a great idea.......

I don’t get why the head official just doesn’t wear an earpiece and he can communicate with the press box in the stadium. Another official can just talk to him and let him know a blatant foul occurred and he could quickly throw the flag after the play and get an explanation from the official in the booth. How is that so hard to do?

What’s blatant is going to be hard to judge. The Saints call is obvious, we get it. But for example what about in the Super Bowl when Gilmore grabs Cooks arm which contributes to him not catching a touchdown? Some people think that’s blatant, some don’t think it’s blatant. It’s just going to open the door for more arguing about what’s blatant and what isn’t. People will always find something to complain about when it comes to officiating.

Officiating is never going to be without controversy. But I think the idea is to not have something as ridiculously bad as the TommyLee no-call. I know what you're saying about the Cooks play. But we see that every game. The benefiting fans say - good call. The penalized fans say - bad call. But the no-call on Lewis was unanimously bad. Even the DB who committed the penalty knew it should be flagged. It had ramifications outside of that one play. I felt it hurt the integrity of the game. Maybe even some carried over into the Super Bowl as to how people viewed that matchup/outcome. Fans will be talking about that no-call 20 years later. Just mention the name Hue Hollins to any long time Bull's fan.
