They deserve more accolades and media coverage but they also deserve more fan support.
Congratulations to the ladies for overcoming the loss to injury of one of their really good players

Attendance (official) vs Akron was 917, at or near best this year at home. Ohio was leading conference 'til smacked by Central Michigan. So ... two big home games this week...MBB/Buffalo and WBB/Ohio. A two-fer would be nice.

RE: WBB Weekly thread 1/20/2019
MBB beating Buffalo would be the cake. WBB beating Ohio would be the icing. Honestly, neither will be a cakewalk (bad joke).
From the Ohio and NIU WBB stats .....

Ohio (NIU)

Record 15-1 (NIU 11-6)
Conf. 4-1 (NIU 3-2)

Pts per game 83.6 (NIU 80.2)
FG % 46.9 (NIU 42.6)
3PT % 39.0 (NIU 31.3)
FT % 71.3 (NIU 77.2)
Reb per game 36.0 (NIU 42.8)
Ast per game 16.3 (NIU 14.2)

Only loss to CMU @ home 88-70 on 1-9
(NIU lost to CMU @ home 89-66 on 1-12)

RE: WBB Weekly thread 1/20/2019
Well, MBB got it done Tuesday against Buffalo. Huge 77-75 win over #14. Weather took a bite out of attendance. Know some who said not skating to the Convo.

Now WBB has a chance to make it a two-fer win by beating 14-1 Ohio. Tipoff 6 pm at the Convo. Roads not as bad, but still iffy.

Go Huskies! Make a good week a great week!

Oops. Correcting myself. Ohio is 15-1. The Bobcats whaled all over EMU 85-44 on Saturday.

RE: WBB Weekly thread 1/20/2019
NIU has had some success with the run and gun. I personally am not a big fan. Shooting has to be hot for it to work, and NIU shot a mere 16.7 % in the 1st. Quick turnovers and rebounds, and Ohio's first 6 scores were all layups, most uncontested. Then they pulled up for two 3-pointers and it was off to the races. 20-8 Ohio after one. Scoring in Qtr 2 is about even.

32-21 Ohio at the half. Northern has not appeared to be a third-quarter team most games. Got to get it closer for the 4th.

Ohio now 16-1 with 69-53 win. Ouch.
Ohio shot 41 % to NIU's 27 %. Those Ohio layups seem big ... points in the paint 38 to 14.
NIU now 11-7.

Next: Saturday, at Buffalo. Sked says 1 p.m.

My Niece is bummed. She was a starter on this team but had bone spurs removed from her hip. Ohio U is playing well this year.

That's a tough deal. Unpredictable, like what happened to Courtney Woods earlier in the season. Is she going to be ready for next season? Isn't there some kind of medical redshirt that applies?

BTW, anybody know Ms. Woods' status? There are people on this board closer to WBB than me. I think she was a senior, but does she get another year?

She is hoping to play next season. She is actually going to try and apply for medical red shirt. She red shirted her freshman year due to knee surgery. She is one tough cookie. Played all of last year with bone spurs.

RE: WBB Weekly thread 1/20/2019
Another tough game Saturday at Buffalo. Bulls lost at home to Ohio by 3 in OT, and to (now) #6/7 Stanford by 7. Also drawing 1,500 to 2,000 per game for strong home court advantage (4-2 at home; those Ohio and Stanford losses). Record is 13-4, 5-1 MAC. Were an NCAA Sweet 16 team last year ... but hey, it's a different year.

Be nice to make it 2-0 vs. Buffalo this week.

Woods will get medical redshirt will be back next year. Woods HAS NOT used a redshirt during her career at NIU.

Again the amount of non contact knee injuries is being looked at by NIU staff. Yes women tend to have more non contact injuries but the high number in a less than 2 year time frame is concerning.

RE: WBB Weekly thread 1/20/2019
Thanks for the update and info, 62423p. I may have caused some confusion about redshirting by referring to two different players with injuries, Ms. Woods and klake87's niece in the thread above.

I started this thread because WBB does not seem to get the attention on the Dog Pound that it deserves. Brief story: was a big-time WBB fan during the Albright years. I met one of her great but unsung players while shopping in Yorkville, right after a tough game at the old Evans Fieldhouse. In that game, she held her ground under the basket, taking a lot of shoving and forearms, but not letting anyone get by her under the basket. I mentioned that, with compliments on great defensive play and how tough it must have been, and she pulled up a long sleeve a few inches and showed me an armful of bruises.

Our women student-athletes play hard and deserve recognition.

Again, 62423p, thanks for the update.

RE: WBB Weekly thread 1/20/2019
Reminder: Saturday 1 p.m. CST at Buffalo. Sked says on ESPN+. No doubt also on WLBK/1360 am/98.9 fm.
Buffalo co-leads MAC East at 13-4, 5-1. Last game was 91-72 over Akron, with five scoring in double figures. Best is Ciera Dillard, ave. 25 ppg.
NIU at 11-7, 3-3. Huskies have three players averaging in double figures, led by Mikayla Voigt, 20.7 through 18 games (but scored 23 against Ohio.)
Be nice to go 2-0 against Buffalo this week, especially after swiping their OLine coach.

Need someone besides Voigjt and Starks to do SOMETHING. Blackwell is a disappearing act. It was great to see them get some production from their post players.

Gonna have to shoot lights out tomorrow to win it.

RE: WBB Weekly thread 1/20/2019
Just a horrible outing today. At some point some of Carlsen’s recruits need to step it up. Outside Poisson her fresh year (yes 2 consecutive years of injuries) she’s been the only one that consistently played well. Starks has improved and shown flashes. The current sophomore class hasn’t been consistent at all. I know they expected big things from that group and it’s been a dud.

Next recruiting class needs some difference makers in the future.
