Nice. Suck it, Jerry Palm.

He was also the Defensive Recruiting Coordinator at PurDONT.

Recruiting history: https://247sports.com/Coach/Derrick-Jack...eRecruits/

Quote: Jackson was one of the top recruiters on the PurDONT staff in addition to being a good coach.
Quote: At NIU, Jackson is expected to continue to recruit Detroit, Cincinnati and Dayton and the entire state of Michigan...

I expect the DC to also coach a position and would think that he'd continue to work with the corners, but who knows.

Still think Wimberly ends up coaching either the LBs or Safeties.

I like snagging coaches from the Big Ten.

Michigan and Ohio are his recruiting areas.

When I first read that, I thought 'DC' was referring to the Defensive Coordinator.

Announcement, please.

Hired a DC with NIU ties?

'DC' probably just meant Washington, D.C.

I just have D-Coordinator on the brain. Like many on here, I'm more than ready to know the full staff already.

With the DC story out, I now desperately want Hammock's twitter to be on some Da Vinci Code stuff when it comes to his veiled references.

Looks like Coach Hammock is bringing his brother in for a Defensive GA position. TyQuan was coaching at Kentucky Christian.

https://twitter.com/Coach_Hammock

According to Football Scoop NIU added Lucas Skibba as an offensive GA.

Northern Illinois: Dakota State (NAIA – SD) offensive line coach Lucas Skibba has left to become an offensive graduate assistant at Northern Illinois.

Here's another assistant. I'm guessing another GA.

Any chance we can start a new discussion thread on the DC? I don't think a lot of guys are seeing this. Either that or everyone's suddenly more interested in talking about the AAF. 03-puke

Re. the DC, looks to be another interesting/excellent hire. Time will tell. But I'm thrilled with all the new faces, hopefully fresh ideas, and hopefully coaches hungry to make an impression. Can't wait for spring practice!

The new DC made 320k last year. I have to think he’s taking at least a 75k paycut, if not more.

It is a testament to the ADs and HCs at NIU that we get quality coaches and stay competitive on the field. With limited budget, Hammock, Carey, Doeren, and Kill have brought in very good coaching staffs.

Pure speculation, but to me it seems like Coach Hammock may be trying to reel in a "big fish" as DC and perhaps if he can't then the first two Defensive Assistant Coaches (Wimberly and Gigli) may be named Co-Defensive Coordinators. Or maybe one of them is along with the main DC yet to be hired.

Hammock Adds Gigli, Wimberly to NIU Defensive Staff
Could I have been right? Does luring a coach away from the "Big Ten," at possibly a voluntary pay-cut, qualify as a "big fish" in this case?

Absolutely. This is a lateral move for the new DC. If he does well though he will get a big payday somewhere else. First Staff meeting today though!!!

So his position responsibility will be Safeties not Corners.

Does that mean that Wilkins is the CB Coach?
Does this make Wimberly the LBs Coach?

Interesting tidbit:
Quote:"Having been a part of the NIU team that played in the MAC championship game in 2005, that unfortunately didn't get it done, kind of motivated me to come back and be a part of taking care of that unfinished business."

Hammock's on a mission to get Coach Novak that MAC Championship that eluded him.

Looks Atif Austin is the new RB/Special Teams Coach.

https://twitter.com/AtifAustin

Austin coached at ND State prior to spending last season with the New England Patriots.

So he's the Pats connection.

RE: Staff - Make Your Picks
I like the recruiting credentials. Looks like an average coach but above average recruiter, which is fine.

He may be taking a pay cut but nice title promotion. DC and associate head coach. Maybe hammock spun that he can be potential replacement when he moves on.
