Once again good halftime adjustments from the staff.

I don’t think we are allowed to make positive comments about the coaching staff. It’s also quite funny how many posters are nowhere to be found when we win a game, but the first ones around when we lose.

My key to this team winning on the road in CUSA: shot selection. Keep 3PA's below 20 (ideally below 15) with the right guys shooting them. Perry, Bell, and Sullivan are all shooting above 34% now. Everybody else should not have the green light and that includes Bryant. I'm not saying he should never shoot one but they should be few and far between. Concentrate on running the team and getting into the paint. Now Gueye, he should never shoot one. When he hangs around the basket, good things happen. A lot of CUSA front-courts are kinda small. He can be a force on both ends if he wants it.

It’s obvious to me that Zack was trying to shoot himself out of a slump, which is the only way to get out of a slump

Where are the "We are a truly horrible team-we won't win ten games this year-we will win only two or three conference games this year" people? However, they are at least consistent. Some of you praising the team after these wins will be back to bashing the team and calling for Ehsan's head after the next loss.

Then he's been trying to do it the entire season. It's not a slump, he is not a good perimeter shooter at this point in his career. He hurts the team by not playing within himself. Just like Gueye hurts the team when he tries to be a wing when he just isn't.

Both those guys are very talented. If they will fully buy into their roles this team would be much improved.

Agreed!

A lot has changed since the beginning of the season, when we couldn’t hit threes at all. Now we have three threats from deep in Perry, Bell, and Sullivan. Bryant needs to attempt an occasional three to keep the defense honest.

UTSA attempted 41 threes last night. 41! They missed 26 threes! Everyone of our six C-USA opponents has attempted a minimum of 22 threes.

Threes:

FAU 7-27 UAB 6-15
FIU 7-31 UAB 5-16
LT 8-22 UAB 8-25
USM 11-26 UAB 6-23
UTEP 10-25 UAB 7-13
UTSA 15-41 UAB 6-22

Gueye made some excellent rebounds last night at critical times. He was aggressive to the point where nobody was going to stop him from getting the rebound. This is not the same guy from last year and earlier this season. Gueye has stepped his game up.

Lovan has stepped up his game lately. He is not playing like a freshman anymore.

I’m not sure Bryant gets the credit for how good he really is. Nobody can stop him. More defenders end up on the ground defending him than I’ve ever seen.

With all that said, this team needs some road victories. The next three games are on the road. Lose all three games and this season will be a disappointment. After going 0-2 on the road two weeks ago, UAB could really use two wins in these next three games.

The talent and athleticism were always there. Now we are seeing some positive results. The challenge is “the road.”

Double Triple Quadruple DITTO on your viewpoint about those 2 guys.

Some coaching has to be attributed to blind luck. Or possibly the opposing coaching staff is even more inept than ours. Those two factors must always be considered. 05-stirthepot

RE: Game Thread : UTSA
Shot selection is important:

When Bryant shoots better than .357 FG%, UAB is 8-0.
When Bryant shoots worse than .357 FG%, UAB is 3-7.

When Bryant takes more than 5 3FGs, UAB is 3-5.
When Bryant takes less than 5 3FGs, UAB is 8-2.

I'm watching the UTSA game right now, and they are sagging off Bryant and deliberately giving him wide open threes. Need to gameplan for that going forward and find ways to take advantage.

Also, UAB is 6-0 when Lovan scores 10+ points.

Besting two mediocre teams at home isnt really praise worthy. It's a nice bounce back after two road losses to mediocre teams last week but if we go 0-2 again next week then it's hard to claim progress.

So you guys with all your basketball wisdom thinks Zack needs to give up on his three point shot, even though the development of it makes him an even better player and us a greater team. He is only a sophomore. He’s working on improving his game, which will pay huge dividends next year or his senior year.

You guys seem to forget that our team is young and we are not watching the finished product

Based on your statements then they should never be praised since the conference is made up of mediocre teams.

If I've got this right, the two teams in question our guys managed to score more than are very mediocre in a whole pool of mediocre. These guys team photos are next to the definition of average in the dictionary.

Just remember, somewhere out there, there are teams that were beaten by these two mediocre teams . And in a parallel universe, there is a supposed superfan in his mom's basement, logging into another internet forum, telling all the other people on said internet board, how they would be better off if he was the coach, because he knows more. And because, the team that beat them , just lost to UAB, so how bad is that ????? Do they know they are worse than mediocre ???

UTSA was 4-1 in the conference coming into the game, and had given North Texas their only loss.

UTEP? Well I guess they are mediocre.

I didn't say he needed to give up shooting 3's. He needs to limit them so that this team has a greater chance of success. Gueye needs to stay inside for the same reason. I'm all for guys developing and then showcasing their skills but the team has to come first. Bryant's only made more than two 3's once this season, against West AL, so cutting his attempts down to 2-3 good looks a game won't have an appreciable impact on his production anyway.

But I agree that it's important to his future. He needs to shoot hundreds a day in the off-season.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying. He's just not a good shooter, and when he takes bad shots at volume, the team loses more than it wins. I still think Bryant is the most talented player on the team, but shooting isn't his strength right now.

I think he can turn into a decent three-point shooter, but that's something that happens in the offseason, not during conference play.

And the "he is only a sophomore" argument doesn't apply considering UTSA's sophomores just torched us for 14/35 from range.

Our four CUSA wins are a combined 39-35. That's pretty mediocre. UTSA is 4-2 in the league but dropped to a disappointing 10-9 overall.
I'd say UTSA, FIU, and FAU are mediocre but UTEP is just bad.

Say what you will about their schedule, UNT's 17-2 record is impressive. UTSA being one of only two teams to beat them is the icing on last night's win. We can win Thursday night with some discipline on the offensive end.

Keep in mind that a lot of the losses we have are not because Bryant shot a lot of threees. He shot threes because we were behind and trying to get back in the game

Zack also has to shoot the open 3 to keep the defense honest. Otherwise, they will drop back to prevent his drives to the basket even more than they do now...
