Well. Our MBB may be a train wreck! And, our FB team may have crashed in the Championship and Bowl Games! But, our Hockey team beat the University of Tennessee last night- 9 to zip! So, take that.

Just curious, how in the world did Middle end up with a hockey team?

Probably a club sport. We have one too.

Pretty sure Alabama-Huntsville is the only division 1 hockey program south of Ohio.

Charlotte won the ACC last year in hockey. Beat State in the final.

As far as I can tell MT's Hockey team is either Non-scholarship or a Club Sport. But, they are sanctioned by the NCAA and the university and funded with free use of The Ford Center in Nashville, a good arena. They are also are in a league with Vandy, UT, and some other competitive folks. Kinda like being Division III?

Foubd this on our teams website:

The Charlotte Ice Hockey team was established in 2005, and currently plays within the D2 ACCHL within the ACHA.

The 2015-2016 was Charlottes first season in Division 2 and the ACCHL, and ended with the 49ers making the playoffs in their first year in the league, but eventually falling to regular season champion, NC State University.


Probably similar for MT. I thought we had a club team but apparently it is d2.

Sounds like a club team, we have a pretty good club hockey team as well. Its not sanctioned by the NCAA, its funded by student activity funds. Can't be Division III, you are either D-1 or your not you don't get to pick and choose your designation for each sport.

Marshall has a club team as well.

We are members of the SECHC and I think we are all governed by the ACHA which claims to be an alternative to NCAA. We are in Division II with Charlotte (who is affiliated with the ACCHC). Regarding Marshall or other CUSA Hockey Clubs not sure with which conferences if any, they are affiliated. Some may be independent. But more importantly, MT swept UT again, beating the Icy Orange last night 5-1. Always Love Smacking down Tennessee and don't care if it's Tiddly Winks.

Did not know that. Where do they play, Charleston? Ice rink in Huntington has been gone for several years.

I did know we have a decent club rugby team.

We also have a club team. It’s very popular in El Paso. El Paso has always had a strong support for hockey teams. We are in the same division as Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas St. We were the 2016 TCHC champions.

Another TCHC Championship for UTEP. The program has existed three years and we’ve captured two titles.
