I will give CUSA credit for trying something different since the status quo wasn't working. I don't know if the pods are the answer or maybe it needs to be revised, but I will give them credit from trying something different.

As mentioned above, hopefully the tourney winner will receive a higher seed assuming some team from a lower pod doesn't get hot during the tourney and blow the higher seed hopes out of the water.

It's number one goal and the reason it is being done is to hopefully boost our 1 bid team up a seed or two. Our chances to win a tournament game are 2.5 times better by moving up a to an 11 seed. If it somehow helped get a 2nd team in then great, but it's not the goal. It's about winning tournament games, making more money and therfor improving our brand. I believe everyone sat down and said the majority of years we are getting one team in, how can we help them win and this was the result. It remains to be seen if it works.

I said this about 3 posts before yours, lmao. I agree.

So if we receive a 12 seed or better can we call the pod system a success?

I think so. Chances of winning as a 12 seed are much higher than winning as a 13 seed. That win and extra unit is worth a lot of money.

The pods will be a success when (if) one of the four naysayers starts a new thread this off-season saying “hey guys I was wrong”.

I haven't read all the responses and this might have been stated... Had S Miss not beat MTSU last year in the tournament and MTSU made it to the CCG and lost a close one, then there would have been a chance we could have gotten 2 into the NCAA tournament.

That said, pods or not, the likelihood of getting 2 teams into the NCAA tournament are so small that I don't think our strategy will matter much. It will take multiple years of having 2+ very good teams (will need to be same teams) in CUSA before we get any respect.

ODU was in the “last four out” in 2015 and probably would have been in if we had won just one game in the tourney as well. We’ve knocked on the door a few times recently. I see a lot of young talent in this league. I think it’ll happen in the next few years. It’s a tightrope for any of us to get there though.
