Most tigers fans here grew up with the Memphis State identity.

I think its great that people are nostalgic for that era. Obviously our coach is too and it was a great throwback night. I know I had a BIG smile on my face seeing those classic uni's and the energy our team played with. The fans clearly enjoyed it.

I kept having flashbacks to Penny, Vaughn, Billy Smith, Anthony Douglas, Elliott Perry, Sylvester Gray, Rodney Newsome. It was awesome.

As I said in my previous post, I respect what the name of our university once was, particularly because that is what it obviously was to many of you in your time, and possibly what is printed on your diplomas.

But it's been a super long time now. As I also previously said, it is an incredibly clown comment to call it the dumbest decision in the history of the city or whatever. That's just uncalled for and pretty much nobody in this thread agrees with that sentiment.

I graduated from Memphis State. After the name change, I was contacted by the University to see if I wanted my diploma replaced with one from the UofM. I told them only if the replacement was signed by Ray Blanton, the then governor. Why? Because I was fond of having my diploma signed by a convicted felon....

25 years was not that long ago. And all though I do not think it was the stupidest decision the university ever made I do think it was very unnecessary.

Lamar Alexander is on mine. I wouldn't change it for anything. I'm proud to be a Memphis Stater.

Yeah, I was contacted too. But they wanted me to pay for the replacement diploma. $25 or something. I said no thanks.

Dr. Charles Crawford in the history department told my History of Tennessee class a story about Blanton's gubernatorial inaugural address, in which he mispronounced the phrase "Annals of History" in the worst way possible.
