For Blake Anderson. I still feel sick when thinking about how we could have hired him instead of EJ. There were (and prob still are) plenty of ******* idiots that bad mouthed the idea of hiring BA. Most of those buffoons were happy about hiring EJ. Stupid idiots!!!

That was a short lived tenure he had at UMass. He was hired there by former USM assistant/now UMass HC Walt Bell in mid December as co-DC from Western Michigan. Now he reunites with another former USM/LFed assistant at Arkansas St.

Defense has been fine though. Offense and QB development......not so much.

I was going way back to 2012 / EJ in general in a "what if" kind of way.

Of course, Hops first year defense was horrendous. Doing very well last two years. Get the Oline and QBs straight and will mow through Cusa.

We definitely would have had a winning season under Anderson. Not sure why they picked EJ.

From what i remember the powers that be felt Blake would be another Fedora where he'd be successful and out the door in 4 years or less. With Ellos the powers that be felt he would be another Bower, be here for 8-10 years and use this as his last job. Little did all involve realize that it truly will be his last HC job at the D1 level.

I've never understood the line of thinking "we don't want a guy who's gonna get poached by a bigger/better school after 3-4 years". Why? If the guy is moving on to a bigger/better school then he's obviously doing something right and more than likely leaving us in better shape than when hired. Rinse and repeat man. I understand Fedora left the cupboard a little bare (supposedly)...but we shouldn't be opposed to some other young up and coming HC who wants to do the same exact thing. We should take this hiring philosophy to ALL our sports. Rinse and repeat. This isn't 2003 anymore.

No one admits to picking him so it is not why but how?
No one admits to signing the ridiculous 4 year guaranteed contract we signed so we paid him for 3 years to NOT coach. ( actually we paid him for 4 years to NOT coach)

Oh, I agree 100% on wanting the coach to get poached by a P5 as it means he did what he was paid to do.....WIN.

My understanding has always been that we had another coach lined up as our number one pick, but got outbid for him. Long time rumor was that it was Kirby smart, but it may have just been a coincidence that he signed a then-unprecedented six year contract worth 1.3 million per year as Alabama’s DC in the same offseason. If that rumor is true, then we should have reopened the coaching search. Instead, we let fool pride take the wheel and rolled the dice on 12-loss. Who, as a sixty year old career assistant, was the least likeliest candidate to turn down our offer.

We probably ended up with Sadler for the exact same reasons.

Monken was also interviewing for the job. Both Monken and Anderson would have had a winning season with that team, but they chose Johnson.
