I actually think ProfScott proves where I was wrong. Most of the games I have watched are ACC, A10. Big East, Big 12, Summit, SEC, a little Pac 12. Most of those names are at the top of least calls. (Could be more talent fouls less, but UMKC's old conference Summit is somehow there) UMKC joined the conference, (they have to adjust) so when Dancing and most of you say its a foul that you should call in that situation, I am just not used to that and some other fouls with different levels of contact being called, but in the WAC it is the consistent call.

In my humble opinion, it probably does have something to do with talent. The better the talent the fewer the fouls. However, I think it has a bit more to do with the style of play in the WAC. CSUB leads the WAC in the aggressive "foul each time down the court" style of defense, but UTRGV, CSU and even UMKC have somewhat similar styles.

Does the WAC still use a pool of refs that rotate Pac 12, WCC, MWC, etc? If so, anyone know/hear if those conference games are having foul issues like are being discussed here?

And, for WAC "old timers." (probably, mostly Aggie posters) Has the conference always been as now (perceived here on these boards), calling a lot of fouls as such is being discussed? Or, did this just appear around the time the conference rebuilt itself 4-5 years ago (WAC 2.0)? Just curious

They changed rules after UCONN beat Butler in National Championship to increase scoring. I think they messed up by not increasing 1 on 1 to 8 and PFs to 6 for foul out.

There were 51 fouls called at the UVU/NMSU game last night. It was a closely contested game but I have to be honest, for me it was hard to really get into it because there was no flow to the game. In any case, congratulations to the Aggies on the win, proving yet again you are the class of the conference.

I will say from watching other conferences.. primarily in the mid-west.. the refs out west in this consortium seem to be pretty soft. The consortium includes Pac-12, WAC, Big West, WCC, Big Sky and Mountain West conferences. They rank as follows:

Mountain West (16)
P12 (19)
WCC (20)
Big West (26)
Big Sky (29)
WAC (32)

Clearly, they call a lot of fouls in general compared to most other conferences. UMKC, Bakersfield, and Chi St play aggressive.. which leads to more fouls.

I don’t think of quality of play has as much to do with it. I mean the top 10 includes the Summit,
Colonial, MAC, Patriot, and ASUN. I think it’s more of how this group manages a game.

Yes the WAC does.

As for the amount of fouls, they've only increased in the last few years as the NCAA has implemented rule changes, IMO.

62 fouls were called yesterday in the #21 Houston (29 fouls) and South Florida (33 fouls) game. 48 of those were in the first 32 minutes. Game went about a half hour longer than it should've.
