RE: NCAA TRANSFER PORTAL
A G5 school finds a gem, he comes to play, shows his ability, and P5 starts in his ear (unofficially of course).
"You'll never get drafted playing in MAC/Sun Belt/CUSA, you gotta move up!"
"In the SEC, you get all the perks! You think Joe Blow's family can pay for him to have that Escalade? No, the school got that for him!"
Etc etc etc

See, this is the advantage of being perfectly mediocre, none of our players are heading into said transfer portal...
You guys just have to learn to embrace the suck...

No one is in the clear yet. Another wave of portal activity is expected after spring practices conclude and players see where they landed on the depth chart. I would think a new staff or one with a lot of turnover is particularly vulnerable as players spend the spring getting coached by someone that didn’t recruit them.

Two Words: Coaching Continuity. It can happen to anyone but transitioning between coaches makes casualties more likely.

Certainly plays a part. Tron likely would still be at Troy if Neal was still HC.

Lets hope we don't become the developmental league for the P5.

Sure, we'll have a few go FCS, but where exactly are players leaving a mediocre team going to go? It's not like we've got a list of guys capable of managing an SEC offer.

You would think so, but 3-9 USA has had a receiver leave for UNLV, one offensive lineman transfer to Vanderbilt and another is choosing between Rutgers, Syracuse and Arizona. Even P5 programs will take a flyer on a kid for a year just to add some depth.

RE: NCAA TRANSFER PORTAL
I think Derrick knew last year he wasn't going to beat out Thomas. The general opinion is that he was being stacked down further in the depth chart. Huesman jumped over him after the fiasco in Statesboro last year, so he probably wasn't going to be our #2 this year either. Someone will get a solid QB, whether it be FCS or G5. I hate to see him go but I can't blame him.

Any ideas on why? Did he just see the writing on the wall and realize he wasn't beating out Thomas any time soon?
Pretty much the case. Jacob Huesman pretty much overtook Peyton last year as QB2 and we just signed a high 3 star qb from California a couple of weeks ago. I could see Peyton head to Coastal as he is from Myrtle Beach and played at Conway HS.

Not a player and not exactly a transfer but E Withers went to FIU a few weeks ago to coach D. Today he was hired by the New York Giants as their DB coach.

I'm glad to see Withers landing on his feet. I figured he would. Never could quite figure out why he couldn't get over the hump at Texas State.
