New Coach Must Be QB Expert
I think it is essential for our new coach to be quarterback-centric. He must develop Childers or replace him with someone who can make a lot more plays. Matt Canada’s expertise is the QB position. As much as I’d love to see Hammock, he’s not a QB expert. Maybe we can have Hammock as OC. He can take over once Canada leaves in a couple years. Then Hammock can bring in Lynch as OC and so on.

Were either Kill or Doeren QB experts? Hire the best guy for the position. Making a hire based on current personnel isn't smart.

If Kill were a QB expert he wouldn’t have chosen Grady over Harnish. Doeren walked into a great situation. Right now it is imperative we get the QB position right. I’d rather the head coach is the top QB evaluator and recruiter.

Five out of the 8 NFL coaching vacancies (Browns, Bengals, Jets, Packers, and Cardinals) were filled by coaches whose expertise is the QB position. And you’re saying it’s not smart? 03-lmfao

Actually, it would be 6 of 8 since Bruce Arians was a QB in college and QB coach for one year before becoming OC and head coach.

I dont see it as a necessity, but if NIU does hire a non-offensive mind, at least hire someone who knows what he doesnt know, and is willing loadshed the offense and QB development to those who can.

I don’t think we can afford the HC to defer to an assistant when the QB position and the offense has gotten away from us. We need to inject some life into that side of the ball and we can do it with the right hire.

RE: New Coach Must Be QB Expert
We don’t want to be a little better. We were one of the worst in the country. We have to be leaps and bounds better. We want the guy who can bring out the best in Childers or someone else. I think it’s essential we hire a guy who will excite and thrill the QB and the offensive players. Of course, we need a DC who can keep that side of the ball rolling.
