Nicole with her 3rd consecutive strong outing (15 points, 7 boards). 5 Owls in double figures, despite emptying the bench for almost the entire 4Q.

First time I've seen Mulkey-clearly a game changer. Imagine how Wilt must have been in high school. No doubt in my mind that this is the deepest women's team I've seen at Rice. I think big things are on the way. Any idea if Olivia will play at all the rest of the season?

WBB is in the wrong conference. They definately should be playing in a P5 conference. :)

Despite the fact we've gotten our butts kicked against UNC, UCLA, and A&M this season?

This is a completely different team since we played them.

Agreed, and all three were on the road AND two of those three were competitive.

RE: WBB vs UTEP
2 of the 5 unbeaten teams in CUSA women's hoops lost today. Marshall lost at Western Kentucky which isn't a surprise, but UTSA beat UNT up in Denton which is a shocker.

Rice currently leads the conference alone with a 4-0 record but Middle Tennessee State can get to 4-0 as well tonight if they beat Louisiana Tech at home. Western Kentucky is 3-0. It is kind of crappy that we play probably the best 3 teams in the conference (UAB, MTSU and WKU) all on the road, but hopefully that won't matter much.

I really like our more uptempo offense now that most everyone is healthy and has had some significant playing time. Swayze looks more comfortablr and the Chisam/Ellig/Mulkey monster at center is something we havent had the luxury of in previous years. Hopefully Wiggins blow to the head the other night isn’t serious and being able to keep her out today was good.
Langley has done a good job managing minutes and for once it is the other teams who don't have a deep bench. Also appears that Nicole is finally completely healthy and has given other teams a real problem with match ups. Bottom line it is a fun team to watch.

You've seen them play a lot more than me, but that monster at center is really just Mulkey to me. Chrisman can give her some minutes here or there (I don't see Ellig getting much significant time to be honest against the better teams), but really the team's fortunes are going to depend on Mulkey staying healthy. As I said earlier, she needs to work on her rebounding but the other aspects of her game are pretty impressive and IMO she'll be the first Rice player ever drafted in the WNBA draft if she stays healthy. (I don't think Jessica Kuster was drafted - maybe Marla Brumfield was but I'm not even sure if there was an WNBA back then).

Draft has been going on since 1997. There has been 1 draftee from Rice, in the third round of 2008.

She only played in 2 games total in the 2008 season (for the SA Silver Stars), then moved to Europe, where she's still playing.

The point about the centers was that Alexa and Kendall can play well enough where Mulkey won’t have to play 35+ a game. And with 2 backuos you have extra fouls to give as well. Realistically I don’t see Mulkey to truly effective if she has to play above 25-30 minutes a game.

Brumfield was drafted in 2000. That same page says so, though it doesn’t show schools that far back.

Good check. I just did a Find for 'Rice' and didn't notice that school didn't list that far back.
