If HCLR turns it on and becomes GOAT HCLR, he will have earned a huge raise.

I'm still a bit more cautiously optimistic than most folks here. We seem to have a lot of young talent, and have won 4 of the last 6 games. Hofstra was a nice win, they almost beat VCU this year.
My season prediction was 19-15, and we could get close if the team gels here at the end. Anything above 0.500 would feel like progress. Pick up a couple wins in the CAA tourney, and there is hope for next year.

RE: Is Kenny Brooks on the hot seat?
VT beat UVA last night. I'd say that goes a LONG way towards helping Kenny!
Remember, y'all, that the ACC is NOT the CAA. It's a damn sight bigger and more competitive. In fact, I'm a little surprised, as unwieldy as it's getting, that it hasn't divided the way that C-USA has. But I guess the members don't want to. So it's going to take VT a good little while to claw its way up to anywhere near the top of the conference, especially with teams like Notre Dame and Louisville up there. If Kenny gets his team above .500 and keeps them there, maybe inching towards.750, and recruits well, that should ensure his job, considering what the program was before.
Just my $.02

RE: Is Kenny Brooks on the hot seat?
It will be interesting to see what the ACC does with scheduling next year and how that might affect Kenny and the Hokies. The ACC is moving from 16 regular season conference games to 18. This move is brought about from the new ACC Network channel that debuts in August. ESPN wanted more (live game) inventory for the channel.
There has been rumors that from a scheduling perspective, the ACC is considering breaking into 3 5-team (somewhat geographic) "pods" where teams will play each within their pod both home and away (8 games) and then play everybody else once each season rotating home and away each season. If this is what they do, it will be interesting to see where they place the Hokies. Certainly, VT and UVA will want to be in the same pod, but UVA will want to be with Duke and UNCheat. Then again, the 4 Carolina schools will want to be together most likely as well. So, it is complicated.

Terrific win for the Tigers, who up to last year had been the laughing stock of the ACC over the last decade. I mean, they were "turrible" in the words of Chuck Barkley. Great turn around this season and their new head coach was a very easy selection for ACC COTY.
Hokies likely will be selected in the WNIT.

Congrats to JMU alum, Kenny Brooks, on perhaps one of the biggest wins in his career as HC at Va Tech today. The Hokies won in Chapel Hole, 72-63. This places VPI&SU in a tie for 4th in the ACC with a 7-5 conference record and 17-6 overall. They are in terrific position to qualify for the NCAAT (for first time in his era as HC in Blacksburg).

RE: Is Kenny Brooks on the hot seat?
Great article on Kenny today in the DNR. I’m happy for the opportunity he earned at VA Tech. I was worried for him a bit when this thread started. But they were on track for a bid last year. ACC play starts this week. After Louisville and NC State, it looks like Tech could be next in line along with Syracuse at years end in conference.
He does have a calming way about him. Basketball is definitely a bright spot at Tech now.
I also think Sean is doing an excellent job filling very big shoes.

Kenny Brooks 3-28-16
“You can build a brand-new house, but if you don’t have any furniture to put in it, it’s not going to be a very nice house,” Brooks said Monday. “And I think that the cost of attendance is something that’s going to be very important for JMU down the road to discuss and look at it from a different angle. My contract extension, I think you kind of understand it. It wasn’t anything to get excited about”.
Bourne has stated it is false to say JMU has lost many recruits due to lack of COA. He has also said JMU won't do anything to hurt its competitiveness long term.
One can assume they aren't dumb enough to attempt to recruit an upcoming massive class of athletes without COA, but common sense isn't driving the ship at this point.
Kenny said recruits are consistently asking about it.
"Madison not offering cost of attendance. That was a tremendous red flag for me. Without cost of attendance in the next few years, there's no way you're going to get the Jazmon Gwathmeys or the Precious Halls or the Angela Mickens' of the world to be able to come to a place like that because it's such an enticing factor. One of the first things recruits are asking is, 'Do you offer that cost-of-attendance thing?' Here in the next few years, there's going to be a divide between the haves and have nots."

I believe you are mistaken, fellow Duke Droid! The Dukes do offer cost of attendance. Perhaps I can point you toward a service center where you can receive an update. I would be glad to help!

Why in the world has Tech not replaced Cassell coliseum?
That makes no sense. That place is a dump.
They are in the ACC. The place holds less than 10k. They could easily average 16-20k with the size of Tech, & playing in the ACC. I don't get it.

Yes, and maybe Kenny Brooks would still be coaching at JMU if that decision was made prior to Jon Alger's missive demanding the CAA not pay COA

I'd assume VT doubling his salary would've had no impact either way.

We should award 3PO simply for getting Dukeman to engage in a conversation rather than just posting from his Word document.

RE: Is Kenny Brooks on the hot seat?
We seem to be doing damn well with Coach O'Regan. I am very glad he's our coach.
As for Kenny, JMU couldn't compete with the salary that Kenny got at Tech. If Kenny left due to cost of attendance (which he didn't), we offer cost of attendance now so either he was impatient, wrong, or he left for another reason.
Kenny is a great guy and I wish him a lot of success, but Kenny is not WBB. He helped to make it what it is today, but Sean is making it his program.
To complain or whine about the past and Kenny not being at JMU is a slap in the face to O'Regan, who is doing great things for JMU and women's basketball.
How about supporting the guy we have as opposed to the one we don't.

RE: Is Kenny Brooks on the hot seat?
I'd like to see another JMU-Va Tech game, especially with the same results as the last one, when this Covid mess is over. That was some of the most fun I've had at a game since I moved here from Tennessee!
And echoing JMad, y'all need to stand up and support Coach O. He is doing a phenomenal job, both in recruiting and coaching. I didn't realize until recently just how young he is. The guy is really just starting out. If JMU plays their cards right, he could be here for a long time. If not, he will be gone just like Kenny.

RE: Is Kenny Brooks on the hot seat?
A weakly worded letter is now being called a demanding missive? I guess the bar has really been lowered.
I am glad for what Kenny did here at his alma mater. He helped the program achieve a new level of success, and kept our expectations at that level. Coach O has taken the reigns and the early returns look good, but we need the CAAT success to fall into place. I thought last year's team was going to be the one to win the CAAT with all that senior talent. I have the same expectations for this year's team, especially quickly the younger players have filled in the missing production from last year. As long as we stay healthy (injuries and COVID), the future of JMU WBB looks very bright.
