What's wrong with less people? Some other countries should try it as well.

What # of people should live on this planet? How should that # be calculated?

They're kids themselves, regardless of their age. Like my grandson says, "I didn't ask to be born". That's how they think. I'm still hoping he grows up...mentally. Physically he's got a mans body but still lacks discipline in keeping a job. At least he works, I guess it's not all bad.

US birth rate at all time low.
More women are working so less women want a man or kids. Less people can afford children because they have crazy amounts of college debt and can't possibly own a house. In general, the USA is as rich as it has ever been and being rich = having less children. Many millenials have negative views of what the future is bringing. It's a combination of many, many things. You guys are hilarious with your "These kids today!" Probably the same things your parents said about you

This is where the West is headed in general due to how much civilization has advanced

More women are working towards careers and spending more time at college than ever before though. That's a good bit different

Civilization is regressing. This is the most basic metric of that. Depopulation = Failure.

With insurance being rediculously expensive and to have a kid without insurance would ruin most people my age. Anyone with a job and a shred of intelligence know they can't afford a kid. With the latest child of hours the pre insurance cost was $7800. And with the lovely Obamacare I had my wife on back then the post insurance bill was still close to 3k.

So I'd be willing to bet financial limits are a big part of this stat

The cost of having a baby in the U.S. is an entirely different debate. We pregnancy like an illness here, and so we get the same inflated medical costs we see in other areas of medicine. Other countries spend far less and have better infant mortality rates than we do.

(which is not to say I disagree with your point about costs contributing to the decline)

Much like the Roman Empire before it was overrun by the barbarians. Declining birthrate, depopulated countryside, excessive taxation to pay for endless wars.

What about those that are not responsible? Do welfare moms have to pay? I remember that C. American ***** with the zika baby who gave birth in Jersey. Women in Mexico find a border town walk across it pregnant, give birth in a hospital for free. They go back to Mexico and when their kids are ready for kindergarten they live in Mexico but get free schooling in the USA.

As always responsible middle class people get screwed.

Ah, but there are financial incentives for poor people having more children.

RE: US birth rate at all time low.
The lowest 20% in income will be on average less intelligent and have worse personal traits to pass on to their children. If they are having children at a rate of 3.0 and the top 80% have it at 1.5, in two generations, that lowest 20% will be 50% of the population.

I can't help but wonder if a similar dynamic has caused the collapse of other civilizations in recorded history.
