At Ice Cube to bid on fsn's
https://www.foxbusiness.com/media/rapper...al-bidders

Interesting quote:
Quote:Ice Cube announced his intentions in a December 11 Rolling Stone piece where he stated that “I’m trying to buy 22 regional sports networks. That’s all my head is about. I believe that some of the gatekeepers that’s been holding the reins in sports over us for so long need to go. It’s time for some new blood to produce and present sports and culture, not only to America but the world.”

A Raider and Al Davis fan, looking to buck the system?

Other good tid bits, Amazon is definitely in on YES and may still come in on all the ran. Sinclair seems in the lead at the moment.

All bids are well under the 20 billion original price tags. Deal has to be done in a few weeks. So probably right around ESPN's exclusive period.

Is "YES" a network? What are all "the ran"?

Sorry, new phone and my auto correct sneaks stuff in if I dont keep an eye on it.

The YES is the New York Yankee's sports network.

Ran should have been RSNs (regional sports network).

The networks are a backdoor way to create a national sports channel with strong local/regional content. Some RSNs would work well for or already do hold third tier rights/games for AAC schools.

Scratch that. They announced in an 8-K this morning they wont be bidding on them. Seems like someone is coming in to overpay for them.

Issues with bond ratings too.

Actually they may not have been able to. Early in the process it was discussed and they expressed some concern the government would frown on it. Apparently they want another cable sports company. Or Sinclair has got the government's ear.

Sinclair seems most likely to me at the moment. Everyone but the Yankees appear to be struggling with the finances.

20 days till the exclusive period with ESPN starts. We could very well see a new national sports channel born before that period ends.

In their 8k they said that the bond rating agencies were frowning on the debt load....among other reasons. Sinclair is the only bidder now and Disney legally has to sell those properties. Disney might break them up as there is some interest in parts of the RSNs. They might get more money that way than selling the whole enchilada to Sinclair

Sinclair was the only bidder from the initial round, but the door was left open for others. Amazon seems the one likely to try and slide in at the end, but Ice Cube or a private group still could.

Fox was definitely looking hard at the buy back. I'm sure a tsk tsk from the government and a reluctant bond market made for an easy decision.

Not sure Sinclair can handle this though. Didn't their bid for Tribune properties just collapse?

Amazon's involvement was misreported a bit. They were never interested in the entire package due to issues with distribution and contracts these RSNs currently have with sports leagues per CNBC this morning. They do want YES however.

It was my understanding that Sinclair was scared off the Tribune deal due to possible issues with the DoJ and the FCC.

What kind of group could Cube get to buy that? I don't see his music and movie careers inflating his coffers enough to pull that off solo. And then the social justice warriors will go at him because of nwa era stuff.

Well first you are under a popular misconception about one of the greatest lyricists ever.

He's actually a much more successful businessman. It wasn't by accident he noticed that NWA was getting taken to the cleaners. He also was one of the first rap artists to take control of his imaging and royalty rights. He has a production company for entertainment including but not exclusively major music and movie projects. He also owns that pro 3 on 3 league. He is well connected in the business, sports, and entertainment worlds. Hence his ability to talk to Viacom about a partnership and is reportedly speaking with various capitol investment entities about it.

Ice Cube's movie production company(Cube Vision) alone has made him tens of millions of dollars if not more. Production credits include:

Next Friday, Barbershop, Friday after Next, Ride Along, Straight Outta Compton, Ride Along 2 among others. Those movies alone have made over 350 million dollars of profit....not revenue...profit.

I know he owns that 3v3 thing and I believe FOXS are the ones televising the games.

Yes, I am aware of CubeVision.

That said, buying all the FOXSNs will take some serious dough...
