In 1990, the Metro tried to form the first "Super Conference"... its membership would've been:
Boston College
East Carolina
Cincinnati
Florida State
Pittsburgh
Louisville
Rutgers
Memphis State
Syracuse
Miami
Temple
South Carolina
Virginia Tech
Southern Mississippi
West Virginia
Tulane
Penn State would've replaced a team (I think Tulane or ECU), but they balked and joined the Big 10. That sent FSU and Louisville packing and the whole thing fell apart.
Would've been the ultimate conference and would have become the power broker that the SEC became.

Even if the conference had started it wouldve been blown up by expansion. Honestly, we'd probably be in a conference similar to the AAC now.

Not necessarily. With the 2 powerhouses in Miami & Florida State, it is reasonable to think that the Big East would not have started playing football, leaving those 2, BC, Syracuse, Va Tech, WV & Pitt in the conference. The key is Miami. Keep them, and this new “Metro” conference becomes the Eastern seaboard football league, instead of the ACC.
The only logical defection would be South Carolina. They seem to be a good fit in the SEC. Fortunately, the SEC didn’t want West Virginia or Va Tech, they wanted So Car & Arkansas.

That looks kind of like the LSU mascot. Pouncer is more of a cartoon like character.
