Mentioned above, teams that would be decent openers for the Bank, VCU, Richmond, GMU & ODU.

Think about this, we are hoping that maybe JMU can open a new basketball arena with a decent Virginia team that was once in the CAA.

My we have fallen. We need standards. It's great that overall JMU sports have been successful. Nevertheless, we need standards for the high profile sports. Scheduling weak and claiming prowess is not a standard outside of Godwin Hall.

honestly, when we used to rock the bleachers back and forth, everyone thought it was terrific fun. looking back on that, we were probably a few highly stressed bolts and screws from a major catastrophe. sort of a Tex A&M bonfire collapse kind of deal.

In later years, i remember them putting in some sort of stabilizer that prohibited the rocking.

I think Va Tech, Uva or VCU for the opener. ODU, Richmond , Mason as games on the first year OOC for the bank but not worthy imo of the opener.

UVA or another top 25 ACC team (likely includes VT, Duke, UNC, UMd) would be nice.

Question is whether thats possible, and what it would cost. Pay game? 2 for 1? Likely those schools won't want to do a 1-1 without some type of sweetener. No thanks to RU or Mason for the opener.

How about we gladly cut a deal with UVA...they come over and support our opening of the UB&TC and we'll give them a home game where we kick their assets at Scott Stadium. Deal!

04-cheers

Dukes need to schedule a lot better. I think next years schedule is crucial
Leading into 20-21. Next year is the year to line up 2 for 1s. I know I’m being greedy and unrealistic but Get 2 or 3 of them with schools from this group Va tech, uva, VCU, gtown, unc, Maryland. I’ll throw in two others assuming Rowe is still the coach- Nevada and Oklahoma (Rowe played for both head coaches). Agree to go on the road for the first game vs these teams in 19-20 with what should be a respectable jmu team (not going to kill these teams schedule or power rankings) in exchange for a home game for 20-21 and then go back on the road in 21-22 with what should be a younger lineup. Make sure you continue the regional mid majors as well- odu, Mason, Charlotte and ecu.

Do you have two accounts on these boards? I am thinking Dukeman is your other account. Do you suffer from OCD? The only thing you and Dukeman talk about in each post is the failings of the JMU administration. Same stuff over and over and over. Never anything new from you. Don’t you think we all have it by now?

One account. I am not Dukeman or Dukeman2.

I work with a lot of leaders. I hear this from leaders on a regular bases, "if you see it and you don't do anything about it, you condone it and you are part of the problem."

After 18 years of brand killing basketball and lost opportunities I watched JMU fire Matt Brady without a contingency plan. Plan G or whichever plan was chosen has led to playing Eastern Mennonite and Bridgewater for wins.

Do you condone the past 20 years of weak scheduling, one and done caa tourney appearances and home attendance at a low since Godwin Hall bleacher days? If you do, the same leaders are in place. By all means, say nothing once and over and over.

I get where hazed is coming from. Do you think VCU or ODU would hope for JMU to open their new arena? They were just another conference mate for us a decade ago. We use to laugh at GMU until Larranaga got there.

RE: MBB: Dukes host Towson (Saturday, 4pm, MadiZone)
Just a reminder that the precident of playing local D3 schools started under Matt Brady. I’m not as rankled by it as some fans are. I treat these games essentially as the exhibition games of years past vs Philadelphia U or others. The scheduling rules and guidelines have since changed so these games are pretty common across college basketball. I just remind myself that they are exhibitions and I don’t factor them into my view of the team or our record.

It’s a sore spot for others. My big issue with the scheduling is the lack of P5 games. They have done an ok job with regional opponents and I get that games vs P5 at home ot even 1 for 1 are hard to come by especially when you aren’t a proven consistent mid major but I still think we have to do what it takes to have a couple on the schedule each year. I’d rather those than the low mid major tourneys we have played in because I think the experience and opportunity is greater in those games for our team.

I understand how Haze feels too. How could I not. Like Dukeman, every post is the same. There is no way I can find objectivity in anyone who swings that far to one side. I find myself not reading his posts which is a shame because I know the guy is intelligent. I just read blah, blah, blah in each of his posts.

VCU and ODU were never just conference mates. Their programs have always been better than ours. We have been competitive and have gotten a few wins over them through the years but like App in football, we always have been a step behind their success. I guarantee they don’t see us as a peer program in men’s basketball.

The best place for JMU right now just might be the A10 and leave football in the CAA. The A10 is a pretty entertaining league and I guarantee you basketball attendance would go up. CUSA, SB or MAC probably don’t move the attendance needle unless JMU basketball greatly improves.

Problem is the A-10 doesn’t want us. Richmond & VCU aren’t going to stump for us to join.

The A-10 is really the A-14 (or perhaps better exhibited as A-10+4). The conference is too big as-is and has really dropped over the last 5 years in MBB. If anything, they don't need to add teams, but they need to cut some fat.

5 years ago that conference in MBB was pushing to warrant as many as 5 teams in the Dance. Nowadays, they might get 2 in (conference tournament champ and perhaps 1 at large). Right now, they have no teams in the RPI top 50 (tops is VCU at #55).

8 of their 14 teams (over half!) have an RPI of 150 or worse. ESPN Bracketology expert, Joe Lunardi, only has 1 team in his NCAAT bracket and that's Dayton as a 12-seed (same as CAA's Hofstra). VCU is in his "Next Four Out". My how the mighty have fallen. At least in MBB.

The A10 is at 14 likely in preparation for losing a couple of members in the future. Btw Justin Kier looks to be in the mix for 1st team all conference and perhaps conference player of the year. That recruiting whiff by the past coaching staff will go down as one of the biggest misses on a rare local recruit of the last 10-20 years. Part of the reason why Brady is no longer the coach.

Would love to hear the Brady fanboys justify THAT recruiting miss. A top-talent for our level who would seem to be an easy get for Brady...

It is really quite simple......Kier was not from Ohio nor Eastern Europe so Brady had no interest (or Crozet/Western Albemarle - Christian Pierce......since that was Brady's real backyard, not The Valley)
