RE: Rod Carey to Temple
Was he number 2 on the list when Temple went with Diaz? Don't remember who the candidates were in the first search. Was there no interest in Schiano once he was canned at Ohio State or Canada when he was cut loose at Maryland. Or, weren't either of these coaches interested in the Temple job at all since they should be able pick up coordinator jobs somewhere else, either at P5 schools or in the NFL. There is still a lot of movement out there with all the coaching changes at both levels this year. 07-coffee3

RE: Rod Carey to Temple
Not sure Temple was interested in Schiano. I believe they talked prior to the Diaz fiasco.
Not too excited by the Carey hire but in all honesty I don’t know much about him. NIU has been a successful team under his watch and he just won the MAC championship again this year. It’s obviously a big step up going to the American and he doesn’t have PA, NJ or DELMARVA connections. But with Fran Brown as DC in place and still landing recruits even without an HC we should be ok. One advantage for Carey is a young solid offense: OL is good, lots of RB and WR options and a good young QB. If this story is accurate I will support Carey as our new HC.

NIU had a hell of a run...until Carey. 11-3 and 12-2 the two season prior to Carey taking over under Doeren. Carey's 1st two season with Doeren's recruits went very well... 12-2 and 11-3. Since then he has coached 7 loss team...two six loss teams and one 5 loss team and lost 3 bowl games..

matter of fact he is 0-6 in bowls...

on the plus side...he won't be leaving after a week or two...or a year or two.

Schiano would have kicked some butt at Temple...the dude can coach....but pisses off a lot of people.

I hope he'll sing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" during the 7th inning stretch at Temple baseball games, too!

Thanks for the feedback. Good luck with Carey. At least he won't be a 1 or 2 year coach and gone unless he doesn't coach up to expectations. 04-cheers

And at least it wasn't Miriah Carey. I do hope this pick works out. How much will the contract be for and what would the buyout terms be?
