Rebuild? Really? You act like the culture at NIU was so toxic. It’s incredible....you would think we are fans of a 1-11 team right now.
The roster suggests rebuild. There is a big lack if talent on both sides of the ball headed into next year. You can say alot of good things about Carey but he is leaving NIU in bad condition

^ saving this post for next decemeber lol

LMFAO. We lose like 7 starters total from a MAC Championship team. Yet the roster lacks talent.

MaddDawgz02 what are you smoking. We are not in a rebuild, we are in a fine tuning mode. We return a lot of players that have experience. Yes we lose some valuable people but I believe we have quality depth. Next coach is not coming in to a position where the cupboard is bare.

+1000 Except the same guys will now say they're not buying tickets because STF's still here, they hate weekday night games, excuses, excuses. You guys got what you wanted, now show up.

In addition to his coaching successes, clean program, and many of the other positive comments on this thread, he also worked hard to improve his image with the media and every time I met the man he was enthusiastic and a pleasure to talk with. Never understood the personal attacks on him. My first recommendation to the new coach would be "don't read the Dog Pound!"

I've been hard on the guy from coaching, recruiting to attitude he shows on field. That said, I think he matured to an extent. It showed most in his weekly interviews.

I am not a player, that close to team and am not part of the teenage girl "rumor mill" that supposedly comes from the locker room. That said, I think he was a players coach, at least became one.

I wish him luck.

Now, about that 4th and 17 punt vs. Duke....

My son met Rod and said he was a great guy, took a photo with him as well. That said, like a lot of you I know some folks associated with the AD that did not have kind things to say about Carey. Who knows, I certainly wish him the best and look forward to a game in Philly, hopefully in the next couple of years.

Regardless of who is coach or how the team is doing, the program needs our support. I will be buying season tickets and go to whatever game(s) that I can, in addition to donating to the HAF.

I wasn't a big fan of Carey, but he did lead the team to a number of good victories, including 5 B10 and 2 MACC's.

Being the eternal pessimist, I'm worried that we'll become another Ball State or Bowling Green, both of whom took nosedives after successful runs.

Carey made have had his faults, but he ran a consistent, steady program.

Let's hope Frazier and Co. make the right decision about the next coach.

Thanks Coach Carey for maintaining a very competitive MAC program...there are lots of teams that would love to be in our situation
Forget the frigging bowl games, we have had a great run building upon what Joe Novak started

Congratulations and good luck!!!

RE: Thanks Coach Carey
MD--I probably agree with you way more than I should and definitely way more than others, but please stop with the rebuild stuff.

College sports are always a rebuild. There are no franchise quarterbacks, no franchise running backs, there is no tanking for a high draft pick---everything changes on a college roster all the time.

I am NOT a Carey guy---my opinion he's (well) below average in game and clock management.....he was embarrassing to watch on TV berating refs or players, particularly kickers----but I do need to admit that I've never seen him in a family living room with a recruit, I haven't seen him in practice when games are really won. I do give him props that unlike many other MAC teams he was able to stay in that 7-9 or + win range most of the time while here and the Western Michigans and Bowling Greens of the conference can't say that.

I believe that much of the success we have is that we are in one of the worst two conferences in the country--but the fact remains that Carey both won a very high percentage of games that we should have and won a fair percentage of games that we probably shouldn't have.

Obviously, if this becomes official, there has to be a lot of money involved because he was locked in a guaranteed another five? seasons at 6-700K+.

I wish him luck and wish luck to whomever takes over......

And, I'm not STF guy either, but he's only made one significant hire during his time and I think Lisa Carlsen was a pretty good pick so I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he will be able to replace Rod.

Thank you Temple. I am happy we got something from Rod Carey but there is a reason he didn't go with Doeren. He isn't a smart decision maker. Not a risk taker and I'm thrilled we will have new blood. My hopes is we bring Hammock in so we can keep bringing back former athletes. These guys show first hand the work needed to get to the next level. Rod I'm so happy not to have your crap record in bowl games anymore. Bye Felicia
