Was going to mention that. Would much rather make it an old SWC foursome with Horns and Aggies. Won’t happen though.

They will play us at AAC but not Moody. I don't understand rejecting that.

That's cool......got one more so it's a group lol? 04-cheers

I was really thinking about how groups of four or five schools traditionally competing in games and for recruits help build strong programs. Like Penn, Temple, Villanova. UNC, Duke, etc.

George Mason is 5 miles from both and Maryland is about 15. Schools have all played for many years. Don't recall a specific number.

Obviously only Georgetown and Maryland compete for the same players.
Navy and American just played a Patriot League thriller in front of like 100 fans at Bender Arena (please tell me students arent back from winter break yet)

Dairy Whip, Hardee’s, and Ed’s Sit-A-Spell Diner have a fierce rivalry in Mt Ida....have for years. Started when Ed accused Pony of using Grade F meat (he does) and also Hardees got mad that somehow Dairy whip fries are served in hardees fry containers (we totally plundered Hardees self storage unit where they keep supplies).

ECU was also the only other NC school in the CAA with UNCW for 20 years throughout the 80s & 90s. There is bad blood in baseball as well. They just wish they had football.

And ECU and ODU are only 2 hours apart. ODUs main rival is VCU and we've played nearly 100 times, but there is always a lot of interest and crossover fandom when ODU and ECU play as well. I think that goes back to the CAA days too. I really hated to see ECU leave CUSA when we joined because I was looking forward to that basketball rivalry starting back up.

Looking at their net it occurred to me that the rest of Tulsa's version of tobacco road/big 5 is doing pretty solid. Along with ORU and Tulsa, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, and Arkansas traditionally play each other, there have even been specific tournaments over the years for the teams in OKC and Tulsa. All are within an hour or so of the city of Tulsa and have shared basketball history, coaches, traditions.

I know Temple has the big 5. I would guess Cincinnati, Louisville, Xavier, Dayton have a similar type of history. Of course Tobacco road. I am sure there are others. Does anyone else in the AAC have a similar set up?

ECU used to play George Mason, VCU, W&M, ODU, Navy and American every year back in the CAA days. College of Charleston, too, I’d say ODU could, and should, be on our schedule every year. But we snub our noses at them like UNC does to us. “Nothing to gain”

Most ECU fans don’t care about ODU. ODU isn’t even in state. Their fans are very whiny. The games would not be competitive most years. There’s really no reason to play them on a yearly basis. They lost to Scotty Mo...

USF and UCF both last played Florida State during the 14/15 season. I'm not sure about when they both last played U of F. With both AAC programs seemingly on the rise it would be nice if they could get those schools on the schedule semi-regularly soon.

From our experience, the P5 in-state schools don't want to play the other state schools while they are "on the rise" ... they want to wait until they start to fall from that rise, so they can actually win the game and still get the name respect that came from the school that had been doing good recently.

There’s no way he’s talking about basketball if he’s saying ECU fans think there’s “nothing to gain” by playing them.
