Embarrassing. New year, same old ****. When will the drought end?!?

Who comes up with our non-conference schedule? It’s a complete waste of time and literally provided our team zero preparation heading into league play. Were we playing high school teams before Ball St. & Buffalo?

Penn was also decent. They just came in at a bad time for them.

Calling out the coach when ALMOST all the board was proclaiming the emergence of the team, is hypocritical. It was fairly obvious from even a casual knowledge, their defense is no better than it has been. Their offense is not better than it has been. They rely on individual skills and those skills are not the worst but not good enough to reliably beat several of the MAC teams. These MAC teams are not easy.

Much like the football coach, K can recruit the potential but hasn't shown the ability to team or call a game better than other average coaches. He's going to lose against better teams and/or better talent and most assuredly against teams better at both. That's all that's happening here. Just a non-expert observation.

And don't count on beating BG this year. They routed a good Kent team at Kent and just beat Ohio by 19 at home.

RE: Rocket Basketball Game Thread
this is the quote from coach K that says it all “We’ve completely lost our edge,” Toledo coach Tod Kowalczyk said. “We’re a team that has been extremely focused over the first 13 games and played together and played the right way and with the correct attitudes and defended. Right now, we are not guarding and we are not playing with the toughness we need and our turnovers are killing our offense right now.”

some of it is stepping up in competition, but there are things we did all season that we haven't done in either MAC game. 1) play good help defense 2)share the ball. both games we consistently took quick shots that were usually contested rather than run offense and get a good look. 3) rebound as a team. outside of AJ, no one is has been been consistently battling for rebounds 4) be careful with the ball. sloppy ball handling is killing us.

and finally, why is navigato guarding jeremy harris? and no one is helping. our slowest defender on the quickest forward in the league.

RE: Rocket Basketball Game Thread
Big challenges ahead before the second round. I think the players the coaches have recruited display the kind of attitude you'd want. I think maybe the coaches are pushing the players into something they are not right for. Said it before, this coach seems to have a schizo approach, recruiting for two different types of teams. The right formula for the talent and ethic they have brought in, much like a simple change in coaching down south has done, except without the change in coach, might be all that's needed.

IMO
1) we never played good "help defense."
2) we passed the ball because the competition was such that they were permitted to pass the ball. We passed not to find an open shot but from open shot to open shot. We passed because it looked good. Better teams are not permitting that.
3) we have one consistent rebounder. They are mostly shoot and hope the ball rebounds their way rebounders, not team rebounders.
4) better defense against the ball is killing us. We do not have a depth of D1 ball handlers and we do not have the team movement to keep the press off the ball.

We got destroyed, not beaten by teams that do play team ball and do have comparable or better players. That's it as far as I can see. Out coached. Buck stops there.

The "team" did not lose that amount of focus over night any more than the football team just had an off day in that 2017 bowl game. The problem has been there all along. They got exposed to those who had not been paying attention or did not want to know. A couple wins and the team will be supremo in the eyes, but the problems will still be there.
