Women's tennis adds standout from Morocco

Diae El Jardi is joining the team and is eligible to play right away. It sounds like she's pretty good - she was ranked as high as 37th in the world in the junior tennis rankings last March, and played in both Wimbledon and the Australian Open (junior divisions).

Will she be playing #1 singles for the Owls?

I think it's likely that she will compete for the No. 1 spot along with Huang (who played No. 1 at Colorado for part of last year) and Haet and Bowtell (who are both really playing well). I'm really looking forward to seeing this year's team next weekend.

She is supposed to be a really good prospect. (I think her mother is a physician in Morocco and she is a good student).

Should be some good natural doubles pairings with the Belgian twins and the two Aussies that went to the same high school

Elizabeth doing a great job reloading in a hurry. Despite losing 3 key seniors from last year's squad, this year's team appears to be even stronger.

El Jardi has a UTR of 11: https://www.myutr.com/profiles/149493

The other players on our roster are all either 11s or 10s. So she's not heads-and-shoulders above the rest, but at the very least she'll add good depth.

How high does that UTR rating scale go?

How high does that UTR rating scale go?

It goes from 1 - 16. Men and women are rated on the same scale. The free membership only shows you UTR rounded to the nearest whole number, but a paid membership will show two decimal places.

https://blog.universaltennis.com/2018/07...utr-works/

My understanding is that if two players differ by 1.00 UTR points, the higher-rated player is expected to win easily, 6-1 6-1, or something like that.

Currently, Novak Djokovic is the highest-rated player at 16.26 (anyone can see two decimal points for pros). Serena Williams is the highest-rated woman at 13.29.
