University of Akron player Kadim Gueye , a 7-foot transfer from South Carolina, was arrested for assaulting teammate Mark Kostelac IN PRACTICE.

It happened Dec.16 and was reported in the Beacon today. The arrest and a court appearance came this week.

Gueye is suspended indefinitely. He was ineligible to play this season because of NCAA transfer rules. Kostelac, a 6-11 post, missed a few grand has averaged about five minutes of playing time. He may need reconstructive surgery.

He drove himself to the hospital? The guy was knocked unconscious, lost several teeth, and may need facial reconstructive surgery... Yet none of their coaches thought hey, maybe he shouldn't be driving right now? That's beyond ridiculous.

I wondered the same thing, anti-zip. Plus, with all the other players and coaches there, they couldn't pull him away before he did that much damage? And, how much does it bother a player sitting out to be suspended? It just means he gets to skip practice.

I spoke to a cop from ua. It got ugly really quick. Sucker punch and then several more thrown before it could be broken up. He will be kicked out of school. They wanted to just dismiss him from school but Kostelacs parents wanted to press charges. Wow I can remember being upset Groce got this kid.

The assaulter was a transfer from South Carolina. Our recent transfer from South Carolina has had some problems with the law. What type of program does South Carolina run? By the way it’s not like he drove a mile or so to Akron General he went 30 miles or so to Hillcrest in Mayfield Hts.

The South Carolina connection came to my mind as well - the whole incident is kind of strange

Coach Frank Martin. You might remember he had some problem players at Kansas St., too before he left for USC.
