TRY PLAYING ZONE FOOl!!!!!
I agree need to try something but playing zone against a good shooting team is a recipe for disaster
A recipe for disaster? How many more 3's do you think they would hit? I've watched us play zone against the 3 and since we aren't having to sag on the weakside to stop the drive, we actually cover the three ball better playing zone.
Their recipe is simple against us. Drive the ball, we sag on the weak side help, and they kick out to a wide open 3. If you stop the drive by playing zone, you stop the kickouts.

Yep. And thus we have all of these players/teams having "Career Three Point Nights" against UNCW.

LOL if you stop the drive on the zone all they do is kickout. It's known by anyone who's ever played/coached before you don't play zone against shooters. You are spot on in the assessment of our crappy man to man. Box n 1 is the answer and he didn't try it until the kid had 8 threes.
I'm a lifelong Cuse fan, I've watched more zone than i care to admit. Zone is not the answer against good shooting teams. It's really just 1 guy that killed us

Ty G is the only good player out there. He plays great on both ends. Terrible perimeter defense sans Ty G.

USA Coaches agree "If the opponent is not a very good perimeter shooting team, this will lend itself to playing more zone."
https://www.usab.com/news-events/news/20...o-man.aspx
We all agree what we did tonight is not the answer. You either go box and 1, or you play man 2 man with a strict no help policy on the guy guarding the shooter.
1 step forward, 2 steps back. The entire story of the CB Era!

You NEVER lose to ONE player without adjusting. It is mind boggling. 27 points from 3 by ONE Freshman! Our Freshman was way to passive today.

WE, meaning UNCW, defend the three better playing zone. I couldn't care less what USA Today says. Delaware puts a lot of players on the line waiting for the 3. You could see them slide over waiting for the kickout when they reversed the ball.
Here's all you need to know. Delaware 16 assists, UNCW 8. And most of their assists were from 3. Seriously, one guy hit NINE three pointers? Ridiculous. That's not bad individual play, it's a terrible game plan and a lack of adjustments.

There's a saying "hand down-man down". That happened several times and we weren't up in them and the weak side was already discussed.

In his post game comments, Coach McGrath expressed frustration with energy, effort, too much individual play, etc. No doubts expressed about his own defensive scheme. Interesting.

Yep Hawking, Kai never felt good about it, but he will have better days. I do like it when he's rolling. Ty and Kai are still keepers and I think that Sims will be good in the end.

The Roy Williams Coaching Tree?
The myth of UNC basketball’s relationship with the three-point shot
"The joke seemingly never dies: A previously unheralded player, usually a guard, comes into the Dean Dome and absolutely goes off, usually from three. There are variations: Sometimes, an entire team can’t miss. Sometimes, the Heels are on the road instead of at home. But it seems to a lot of Tar Heel fans that opposing teams consistently get open looks behind the arc against Roy Williams’ Heels, more so than they do against other teams. "

The scored 45 points from 3 tonight!!! I dunno what we had, but it has to be like 24 or something like that. Rebounds were even and UNCW had a 26-18 paint advantage and also dominated 2nd chance points with only 6 TO's. The low TO's was due to pace and not sharing it though.

LOL it's not USA Today it's freaking Team USA basketball coaches! LOL
There are a lot of answers that could have worked, unfortunately he didn't try the best one until after kid hit his 8th three!

He mentioned that their preparation and gameplan wasn't good enough. That to me was a reference to their defensive schemes. I could be wrong. Can't recall him being as visibly upset in a post game interview as he was in that one though.

right, but you know what you do with a game plan that's not working? You change it up at halftime, not complain about it in a postgame interview

Agreed. We made no noticeable changes until late in the 2nd half when it was too late.

Agreed... Not trying to defend him. Just adding to 70s post. At least he took some of the blame. I know that's been a knock against his post games interviews in the past. Not many post game comments are going to satisfy fans after a loss anyway. Let's be real.

Guess why we didn't have the assists? Delaware played ZONE. See, that's called COACHING. Get some.
