8/31 Texas State
9/7 @Clemson
9/14 Lamar
9/21 Auburn
9/28 Arkansas
10/12 Alabama
10/19 @Ole Miss
10/26 Miss. State
11/2 UTSA
11/16 South Carolina
11/23 @Georgia
11/30 @LSU

I see five almost sure wins.

I see four probable losses.

Anywhere from 5-7 to 8-4 is perfectly reasonable with that slate. Tough draw but it’s also early so the teams in each category may be very differently perceived at the end of the year.

I see 6 sure wins.
Tx St, Lamar, Auburn, Ole Miss, UTSA and South Carolina.

Has any school in the South done less with more???

In addition to UNC, @UT, @Missouri, and others.

I'm sure there will still be threads from mostly Big Ten fans bemoaning the fact that SEC schools schedule an FCS game though.

Only FCS games in late October or November are bothersome. Schedule in September, fine.

There's no difference.

No huge difference. It's like a 2/3rds bye or a second bye during conference play. Having to play 9 P5 opponents in a row with only one break in there is far more difficult than playing 8 and having both a bye and an FCS opponent. It is a huge scheduling advantage, allowing dinged up players extra recuperation, and allows you to play the deep bench for most of a game.

Soooo

It’s a smart way of dealing with a tough conference schedule

It’s also a huge advantage for Big Ten teams to avoid playing tough games in September. South Carolina is playing UGA and Akron while you’re cruising to a 4-0 record against Toledo and ULM
