RE: Random JMU Thoughts
Did anyone know JMU had a roller hockey team? Saw them playing yesterday against Virginia Tech over in Apex, NC (outside of Raleigh) while my kid played indoor soccer. Random.

Nothing really stands out. Even though we have all this talent, can he get them to play. That is the main question. He is going to have to show more then what he has shown to me so far. Saw a video of him talking with the team on their first meeting. The guys didn't seem happy or excited. We will see what type of motivator he is. You will say he did it at Elon, they beat us. We are a different animal. Wish him well and hope he succeeds and we win it all. He is going to have to prove it to me first, before I go the chains and saying we are going to win it all or even make it to the semifinals. We have all learned with all the talent, we just can't throw our jock straps on the field and win.

I'll jump on the flame train and say the dude's record and background speaks for itself. Coached with some of the best. Plenty of HC experience at lower levels/smaller schools. Never a losing season. (Everything Lou Rowe is not.) He can turn his pre-game speeches into accordion songs for all I care as long as we win.

As an aside, the ECU fanbase will EAT UP Mike Houston like a fat girl with a tub of mint chocolate chip ice cream. That cowboy bravado b.s. will be HUGE with that bunch of yayhoos in Greenville.

Houston’s Cowboy Bravado will only be tolerated if he’s winning enough to placate them. That’s probably 9+ win seasons and probably 2+ P5 wins per season.

I'm starting to think he may have a shot to make it work there.

Schedule alone should get them to 6-6 at the worst, and maybe 7-5 or 8-4 this year with some improvements in coaching and play. 7-5 doesn't even require beating a FBS with a w/l record over 0.500, its a very weak schedule this year. They can point to that "turn around" and sell that to get better recruits.

I think the real test will be his second year (2020), when the schedule includes 4 tough conference games (Cinci, UCF, USF, Temple), and two potentially tough OOC games (VT, S. Carolina).

If they get "stuck" around 6-6 territory for several years, then i think his fanny will be pretty warm. He'll get at least 2 or 3 years though, and maybe more if they can show improvement year over year.
