Georgia- #12 Kentucky, #32 Auburn
Florida- #14 Michigan, #28 Mississippi St
LSU- #11 UCF, #28 Mississippi St, #32 Auburn

It's pretty close. It's definitely far from absurd to have LSU at the top.

I don't think its absurd to have LSU at the top. I don't agree, but I do think that its close between UGA and LSU. Its Florida that is the absurd one.
but Florida is in the 3 way tie just like LSU and Georgia is.

When you only look at 2 games. And even in those two games, LSU won big at home over Georgia, Florida won close at home over LSU, UGA won big at a neutral site over Florida.
Florida was 2 games behind UGA in the east and they didn't get Alabama and Texas outside of the conference schedule. Florida had Michigan, Charleston Southern, Idaho, Colorado St. and FSU outside the 8 conference games.

Georgia's OOC schedule wasn't exactly stellar either. Austin Peay, Middle Tennessee, UMass, Georgia Tech, and Texas.

Sorry but this isn't that crazy of a final result. Florida probably of the 3 the most impressive in bowl games, and Georgia by far the least impressive of the 3.

And Florida had the 3 worst losses out of the 9. And Michigan never impressed me all season.

look, I think if it was just Georgia/Florida- Georgia would have had it. But with LSU in there- that changes things....

3 MWC
2 AAC
1 Independent made the top 25.

3 SBC and 1 C-USA teams got votes. Out of the top 40 teams, MWC and SBC are the better conferences over the AAC.

Lol, and out of the top 1 teams, the ACC is better than the SEC.

Considering suspension for summer camp for our head coach and AD, losing possibly the #1 player in the draft early in the year, having a closer than it looked game vs. TCU, being given like a 1-2% chance of winning at one point in the 4th quarter vs. Penn State, getting killed by Purdue, being a 2-point conversion away from losing to Maryland, and constant rumors our head coach was going to retire from health issues, I think this Ohio State season was one of the most impressive I've seen from the Buckeyes.

This was far from the best team I've seen from them, but if you told me all that above would happen I'd have guessed this would be 8-4 or 9-3 regular season. To finish 13-1, Big Ten and Rose Bowl champs, and #3 in the country. I'll very gladly take it.

The link also has "strength of record" which compares their record to an average top 25 team.
Boise was 31 but ranked 23 for a +8. Utah St. was +5. WVU and Texas were +4. Florida, Penn St. and UCF were +3.
Michigan was 9 but ranked 14 for a -5. Kentucky was 8 but ranked 12 for a -4. Texas A&M was also -4.

Dammit - I really thought Umass' win against FCS Joe-Bob State would give them enough swag to sneak into the top #25.....

It was a strange/normal year for OSU. Some ups and downs, taking care of Michigan winning the Big Ten/RoseBowl, awful game @Purdue and the Maryland game. OSU has had some difficulty at Ross Ade over the years. It isn't easy for any team to be locked in and bring their A game every week.

RE: Final AP top 25 is out
Ohio St is interesting. This last decade they've lost 19 games(7 in the transition year)- but only have 1 title to show for it. Last 16 years now a crazy only 33 losses. With 13 of the 16 years ending in a major bowl/BCS Title game/National title game. But still only the 1 title.

If you can underachieve while losing only on average 2 times a year- Ohio St has done so... Just crazy.

Winning a title involves a lot of luck.
In 1998 3 teams had to lose on the last weekend for Tennessee to get in the title game.
In 2001 2 or 3 teams had to lose for Nebraska to back in.
In 2003 Auburn never got a shot.
In 2006 they almost had an Ohio St.-Michigan rematch and Florida would not have had a shot.
In 2007 everybody lost on the last weekend and 2 loss LSU got in.
In 2008 Texas beat OU, but lost late in the last second and got beat out by an OU with the same record in the BCS. USC lost early and didn't get a shot. Utah was unbeaten.
In 2010, if the Alabama defensive player doesn't get careless running the ball back for a TD, Auburn wouldn't have been in the game. It would have been Oregon-TCU.
In 2011, Alabama got an unearned mulligan with heavy lobbying by ESPN. Oklahoma St. got left out after a loss on the road days following a plane crash that killed a number of Oklahoma St. athletes.
In 2014, Ohio St. barely got in. Baylor and TCU didn't.

You have to be there in the right position, but it doesn't mean you win a championship.

RE: Final AP top 25 is out
In the decade of the 2000s, the winningest teams:
1 Boise 112-17
2 Texas 110-19
3 Oklahoma 110-24
4 Ohio St. 102-25
5 USC 88-25 (after vacated wins)
6 Florida 100-30
7 TCU 95-29
8 LSU 99-31
9 UGA 98-31
10VT 99-32

These were the only teams winning 75% of their games. Boise, TCU, Georgia and Virginia Tech never played in the BCS title game in that decade. Texas played twice, winning one and losing their QB in the first series in the other game. Oklahoma only won one, although they lost 3 times. Ohio St. only won one (when they were a huge underdog), although they lost two times as favorites. USC only got there twice, winning one and losing one. Florida did win twice, barely getting in the first time. LSU did win twice, once after an upset win in the SEC title game and once with 2 losses when everybody and their dog lost the last weekend.

That's 8 of the 10 titles and 7 of the runnerups (Miami and Alabama won the others while FSU, Nebraska and Miami were the other losers), but no more than 2 titles per team and 4 never even got to play for it.

I thought that the "conventional wisdom" was that ND had a much weaker schedule than most of the other playoff participants.......

It does also in Basketball. Big Ten I think has 1 bball title in the last 28-29 years. Been runner up 8-9 times.

Matchups matter in basketball. I'm reminded of that year UConn beat UK for the title. Louisville beat UConn 3 times. Florida beat UK 3 times. UK beat Louisville in the regular season and in the tourney. UConn beat Florida in the regular season and in the tourney.

Yes, we had all predicted that LSU, Georgia, and Florida would be very close, because they all had the same losses but there was a 3-way H2H issue where A beat B who beat C who beat A.

So no use arguing about the final results as they were indeed close. Sounds like a peeved Georgia fan.

No, just a few people who value a bowl game over the whole season and come up with nonsensical results. But you aren't any different from most pollsters. And not terribly different from the CFP which seems to have even more of a recency bias. Its why we need to get away from a system so dependent on individual opinions.

Its not the first time the polls have nonsensical results. Its pretty common and didn't surprise me at all.
