Maybe, but the same thing didn't hurt Clemson.

Texas A&M, Syracuse and I think BC was close until late. And they had Syracuse w/o their starting QB.

I thought Clemson would win in a shootout. I predicted 41-38 in the P5 thread. But when you have offenses as potent as this, you can get blowouts between close teams. One gets ahead and the other presses too hard or gives up.

While watching the first half, it looked to me like Alabama would pull away in the second half, just like Clemson actually did. These two teams were much closer than the final score would indicate. The difference, IMO, was that Bama's play calling played right into the strength of Clemson's D once they got into a goal to go situation.

The Tigers are a little shaky on the back end of their defense, and in the open field that meant Bama could move downfield quickly. But with a short field, Clemson's superior defensive line was more of a factor. Bama tried to power the ball inside too often, coming away with no points several times inside the ten. Play action passes or QB keepers to the outside might have kept the score close deep into the fourth quarter. But once Bama had to play catch up, they had to take risks that opened the gap wide.

There is no doubt in my mind these were the two best teams this year. Tons of NFL talent on both sides of the ball for both teams.

Agree with you on all this.

This is a weird statement. Clemson totally outplayed Bama, better coaching (game plan and play calling), better energy, more skill speed and tenacity. I saw two different levels of play last night. Clemson pressured Tua all night, constantly moving him off his spot, leading to errant passes, forced Bama to get desperate with their play calling (see all the failed 4th downs/fake punts). Bama also had some timely penalties, lack of discipline. Clemson played lights out, bama played pretty crappy.

I dunno...Alabama out-played us for a quarter. We were able to take advantage of a mistake (the pick 6) but other than that they pushed us around pretty good in the 1st.

We made better adjustments though.

TAMU played up to Clemson's level. The other two games were Clemson having an off day.

The point is that they had to come through in the 4th 3 times.
Alabama's 3rd string coasted through the 4th pretty much every game except for UGA.

BC wasn't close. It was 20-7 entering the 4th quarter and a punt return td with 1139 to go made it 27-7. That's not close.

Which is to say that Saban got outcoached last night.

Yeah it felt like Clemson was narrowly hanging on for a bit, then caught up and made Bama their you-know-what. Not often that Saban gets schooled in-game.

We are now five for five. No #1 seed has won the CFP crown yet. Will next season be the first? Will it be one of these two schools?

If the Tigers are fortunate enough to end up in the championship again again as a #1 seed, maybe we should ask if we can wear our white jerseys, like GT and a few others do at home, just in case it is the jersey color that keeps messing things up for the top seed here in this CFP era. :)

Lowest rated game in years. Second lowest in the past 11 years of the Championship Game.

Could be a two-fold factor.

1. Another matchup of the same teams.

2. ESPN losing subscribers each quarter and in less households.

And 3. The game being essentially over by the time the 4th quarter came around.
