did you watch the Sugar Bowl?
Of course! But I think the loss in the SEC Championship game mentally gutted them. Just my humble opinion...
Their hubris gutted them. They thought they were better than they were and thought they were playing UMass again instead of a team with about as much starting talent as them (but not the depth).
As a Georgia fan, you would know more than I. But why and how did the team have that disposition?
SEC! SEC! SEC! They thought that patch on their sleeve made them better than any non-SEC team just because Alabama has been better than anyone else. Also, they kicked Alabama's tail for 3 quarters before fading in the 4th. Nobody else had challenged Alabama all season. They also bought into the Big 12 has no defense nonsense.
A couple of the Texas linebackers were saying UGA was talking trash early on, but at the end of the game, they were saying, "we didn't know you could hit so hard."
The fans thought it would be a walkover. The coaches and players were saying the right things, but its hard to avoid being infected when the fans and students think it will be easy. Texas hit them in the mouth and marched down the field the first drive and they were in shock.
The announcers had a live show in the Hilton the night before where Georgia was staying and were saying UGA would run at will. I was thinking they had never actually seen Texas play. My wife was talking trash too! I told her exactly how the game would go and it did. Unfortunately, I saw a lot of Texas teams with that same hubris in bowl games in the Fred Akers years, so it was pretty predictable. The UT line whipped the UGA line both sides of the ball. From the OU games, Georgia should have known better. Or what Texas did to USC, 37-14 (who wasn't a great team, but was loaded with talent).
UGA is loaded with talent, probably better than anyone but Alabama and Clemson (and maybe better than Clemson), but you can't play your 1st, 2nd and 3rd string at the same time. Its still 11 on 11. And the Texas top 11 were a close match for UGA's top 11.
