ECU fans opinions on OL Coach Brandon Jones?
Apparently UH has hired a new OL coach, Brandon Jones. Picked him off of a P5 staff...less than a month after he was hired by Mack Brown as UNC's OL coach!

I see he was ECUs OL coach for five seasons. What are ECU fans' opinions of Jones?

When?

I can’t remember a time that our offensive line was effective. Maybe during the Holts era or possibly during Logan’s tenure.

From what I read, he was at ECU from 2010-2015.

Press release from his UNC hire mentioned that his teams had Top 10 offenses at Cal and at ECU.

Was not well liked by the players and was seen as largely ineffective by the fans. He was brought to Ecu from Texas Tech when Ruff and company were hired. Perhaps though he has grown up since then. He knows the Ol Air Raid system very well.

Dont understand how any ECU fans can say he was ineffective. We had 42 wins, the most prolific offense that we've ever had while his was here, most prolific QB, 2 1,000 rushers, and two other backs had very good seasons behind his OL. Not to mention he was scooped up by a Hall of Fame coach with Brown.

People like to give all credit to Linc, and it's very understandable but at the same time you need an effective OL scheme to run the offense to the level we were able to.

I think Jones will be a fine coach for Holgosens offense.

This is the bottom line. Regardless of how popular he was or wasn't, he knows what is required of an air raid O-line, so this should be a good fit.

Good hire. Here's what our O looked like while he was here.

He got a lot of heat for not being a good OL coach, but since his departure our OL has been a complete disaster. We put up some mega numbers while he was OL coach here, and he absolutely knows how to coach OL for the Air Raid. Also if you guys stole him from UNC right after they hired him that just puts a little smile on my face.

I heard that during Ruff’s tenure, he was trying to bring in more linemen but that he was overruled in favor of bringing in more WRs instead.

This could explain some of the difficulties we had running the ball. We were only able to run the ball when we caught teams by surprise. We were never able to do so consistantly and as such, we lost some games that we should not have.

Maybe he’s adjusted his schemes; who knows? Only time will tell.

Brandon Jones first year we did fine with Jon Williams and Giovanni Ruffin in 2010 who combined for about 1300 yards rushing. 2011 we never had any RB step forward with Torrance Hunt and Reggie Bullock combining for around 900yards . 2012 and 2013 were our best rushing yards under Lincoln Riley and Jones when Lincoln converted QB Vintavious Cooper to RB and he had back to back 1100 yards rushing seasons. 2014 was RB by committee but Breon Allen, Chris Hairston, Anthony Scott and Marquis Grayson combined for about 1800 yards rushing so we definitely ran the ball pretty good. That was the sneaky thing about Lincoln Riley for all the hype about the Air Raid throwing the ball all over the place we actually did some fairly solid running. Our problem was we ran well between the 20's but had trouble once we hit the red zone or when we needed to pick up a critical 3rd and short. We of course lost to Florida in the Bowl game because we could not convert on a simple 1st and goal.

Bottom line Brandon Jones will have the OL talent he needs at Houston to run Dana's offense and that will include running the ball.

Mediocre.

Hard to judge his successes when he had Lincoln Riley running the offense. OL was definitely the weakest posistion group on offense while he was here, I can say that.

Every position coach wants to bring in more players at their position 07-coffee3

I second this.

He's a good coach. Will fit the players to the system and coach them up. #2 and #3 will be ready to play to the best of their ability if needed. OL was never a standout group while he was here, but was definitely serviceable in the system.
