He did in fact reach out for our job both times. He would have been a much better HC than Tyson Summers.

That's a low bar.

Of the candidates that have been unofficially floating around, I'd like Will Hall or Jon Sumrall. Maybe Matt Moore. Not interested in Vic Koenning, John Grass, or Kenny Edenfield.

According to ESPN's Adam Rittenburg, Troy has had discussions with the following coaches:

- #Tulane OC Will Hall
- #Kansas OC Chip Lindsey
- #LouisianaLafayette DC Ron Roberts
- #OleMiss linebackers coach Jon Sumrall

He just got the OC job at Tulane. He was TE coach at Memphis last season.

Chip Lindsey sounds like a hell of a hire if Vic stays

Vic is already in Morgantown per several (albeit unofficial) reports.

We didn't really get a feel for "his" offense, since the thought was that Hud basically dictated what to call. He was the third OC in three years.

Chip HC + Jon Sumrall DC would be a good combo.

I agree, hiring Chip would make sense. Former Troy guy, knows the area, and he has at least some P5 OC experience, 2 yrs Auburn + 1 yr Arizona St and several years OC at Southern Miss. Currently, new OC at Kansas - which means good enough for Les Miles.

I really like Sumrall, but Chip's resume is better at this point. There are some who know Sumrall better than I do that really believe in him as a leader. Wouldn't be a bad choice either, IMO.

Chip could have easily replaced Monken but choose to stay with az state.

Ive always thought he would be a good hc when the time comes.

Sumrall is a former Trojan coach. He was with Neal Brown at Troy for three of his four seasons. While at Troy he was Assistant Head Coach, Linebackers Coach, and Special Teams coordinator. Before that he was co-DC at Tulane for three years. He was DC at San Diego for two years before that.
We aren’t looking to rebuild. We are looking to continue the course we are currently traveling. Continuity for the players, along with likely retaining some current defensive staff that’s done a pretty good job. Anyone that’s been around Jon knows he will soon be a successful head coach at this level.

Lindsey left Troy as quarterbacks coach after one season, under strange circumstances, to coach high school at Spain Park.

Yep!

I think we will be announcing Jon Sumrall any time now. Which is the correct choice. I believe Jon was the first hire Neal Brown made and made him Assistant HC. Neal Brown would give the stamp of approval on our hiring of Sumrall as HC.

His biggest hire at Troy will mostly likely be OC.

He probably left for the money. He is making over $100,000 at Spain Park.

Vic is already in Morgantown per several (albeit unofficial) reports.

Footballscoop reporting Vic to WVU:
West Virginia: Troy defensive coordinator Vic Keonning is expected to join Neal Brown in a similar capacity source tells FootballScoop.

I played for Will Hall early in his coaching career. He would be a very good choice for Troy. He recruits Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia well.

It's a matter of time before he's running a big program, Troy should try to get him for a few years on his way up.

So how long after the announcement of the new hire and new staff do we start seeing Troy fans post about how the new coaching staff is the better than ever or the most exciting to ever grace the sidelines like we have seen from Appy fans?

If you read the Coach of the Year thread, Satt was the best thing since sliced bread, but amazingly the new coaching staff and Drunk are going to be better.
