You really shouldn't post information that is blatantly false, especially when it is so easily refuted. Alabama's population numbers are not declining. It took me about 90 seconds to find that based on the latest estimates our population growth is at an annual rate of .26%, and expected to be at 5 million by the 2020 census. So, either you A) are completely ignorant of the topic and too lazy to research it before you post, or B) know your statement is false but post it anyway to make some sort of point. I don't know which is worse.

Sorry. Alabama's slow/stagnant population growth. One thing that is irrefutable is that Alabama is growing at a much slower rate than the rest of the southeast. Not sure what point you're trying to make or if you're just intentionally being a jack ass.

The POINT is that for many decades the red flags warning of going the wrong way in state leadership have been totally ignored by important leaders and policy makers with the support of voters. The business journals reported Alabama lost over 60,000 jobs as a result of the Recession of 2008, but much is made of the few thousand jobs -many perhaps minimal wage, no benefit jobs - that have come in attracted by the legislative act in 2016 effectively guaranteeing the cheapest labor force in America.

Where is the public outcry that Alabama has a rural auto death rate twice the national average, or that the state identifies dozens of "failing schools", but has no programs to improve them? Like those "monitors" on TV ads, they just label and walk away, in effect washing their hands. No other state had the top officers of all 3 government branches removed from office only to have voters return the same party's leaders to supermajority power.

Wasnt a response to you. I'm not even going to try to figure out what point you're trying to make.

I am not being an ass either. I just want to know so that I can understand what you are trying to accomplish.
I read that statement you made about Alabama population declining and without looking it up, I knew you were wrong and wanted to reply as well.
So which is it? Lazy or purposefully trying to mislead?

Are you joining in on this also? Look guy, theres a natural population growth because people are being born at a higher rate than they are dying. That doesnt change the fact that Alabama isnt experiencing an influx of migration from other states at the same rate other southern states (Georgia, Texas, Carolinas, Tennessee) are. The point i was making to BAMABLAZER is that building a new sporting venue, regardless of what kind of facility it is, is not going to attract people that live outside the state of Alabama or the Bham region to move here, which seemed to be the point he was trying to make. I apologize for making an inaccurate statement. No, the population of Alabama is not shrinking. It's also definitely not growing in any kind of meaningful way. So what point are you trying to make? If it's just to prove I made an inaccurate statement, congrats i concede. If you're arguing Alabama is experiencing a healthy growth rate, you're wrong.

Most likely it’s one of his three points he is constantly making

I'm glad to see the city moving forward. I'm still confused as to why there wasn't a plan to do a MPF downtown but that's just me.

I disagree with that as well. Building new facilities in the Birmingham area has convinced multiple professional franchises to locate here. That alone could convince people that Birmingham is changing and maybe they should take that job here. You have always been a lively participant in the discussions held here. I am in no way hoping to shut you down. I just want you to know that there is an additional viewpoint.

There have been multiple plans for a MPF for thirty years. Hell, Larry Langford even held a groundbreaking for one. At no point from then until now did the city of Birmingham ever have the funds to build one, nor a viable plan to raise those funds.

If you think that the $300m package of improvements to the BJCC and building a new municipal stadium does not qualify as the city moving forward, I don't know what to say to persuade you.

The CITY of B'ham is not building the BJCC stadium out of its own pocket alone any more than it could have built the MPF alone. If there had been the same proportionate metro area financial support in 1998 for "MAPS", the city might today have a nationally competitive all season convention and sports facility instead of the smaller seasonally limited facility now being built at nearly the same final costs. As a UAB Blazer fan, I am glad to see any new football facility built for our use, but for the CITY, it is much less progress than what was needed for national competition.

For $300 million the city could've done a lot more that just upgrades to the BJCC and a 45,000 seat open air football stadium. I'm in Birmingham often even though I don't live there and I'm impressed with the positive changes that the city has made over the last 5-8 years, but a LOT more could've been done for 300 million. No I will admit that this is based on the drawings of the stadium which have not been impressive at all. Maybe my mind will change as time goes on.

If B'ham alone had that $300 million to spend on a facility, it might have been able to build a more imposing facility. That number is the TOTAL FUNDING supplied by ALL participating contributors with B'ham and JEFFCO leading the way. That is why it is referred to as the BJCC Stadium and Civic Center renovation project. The CITY will still own only Legion Field as a large capacity venue.
