How does an AAC school lure a B12 football coach?
I thought this was interesting from the logic and financial aspect.

While the billionaire aspect helps, just shows you how big the difference really is between the AAC and the MAC.

Was waiting for someone to post this. I think everyone knows there will be expansion again and you know the top couple G5 will be gone. Houston being one of them.

I personally love their mentality. 10-2 is what they expect and 8-4 will get coaches fired.

This is probably more about coaching FBS football in Texas than it is about P5 / G5 or Big12 / AAC. There's only a few school where this would happen.

Otherwise no dice.

Easy to have that mentally when there are financial resources to back it up.

They must go through a lot of coaches. They’ve won 8 or less games 8 of the last 12 seasons.

Quote:"We're down 7,000 season tickets since Herman left. It's not Major's fault, but that's almost $3 million a year, just in tickets.

If NIU were down 7,000 season tickets would there be any season tickets sold that year?

And to answer your question...4 million dollars.

With that said, Holgorsen clearly wants to be in Houston. He's said so. But, make no mistake, if it weren't for the 4 mil, he'd still be in Morgantown.

Yeah, this is about Texas and Texas football money. Also...about the fall of the Big 12 from where it was 6 - 10 years ago.

Houston is making a case to belong in the Power 5. The have a big time donor (billionaire) that is board chairman. He loves football and is willing to spend money to have a winning program. New stadium, big fan base in large market. Lots going for them. Article was interesting to see that their revenue is much less (60 million) than the lower tier Big12 schools (90+ million).

I'm sure that gap would close if Houston got the $36 mil each big 12 team gets instead of the the $8 mil it currently gets from tv contracts

For sure. My point is that even the haves of the G5 are at a huge disadvantage over the have nots of the power 5. Tv money is huge. I’d be thrilled if we were getting money comparable to the AAC with mostly Saturday games.

Houston is the fourth largest market in the country.

Problem for UH it's in a pro sports town and is a largely commuter school. And they are sharing CFB fans with Rice which is also in Houston.

That's why stadium is relatively small and attendance isn't greater.

Its only a matter of time that UCF and USF get into a bigger conference or the ACC becomes a power 5 conference. Only Texas is a bigger school then USF and UCF. The Big Twelve would get TV markets of Orlando and Tampa Bay. They probably already do pretty well with the Texas market in general with the teams they have in the conference. The is absolutely no chance a MAC school would get invited before USF or UCF.

The goal for NIU should be the AAC. However, I think the state finances, school enrollment, and athletic attendance has made this a deep longshot since our bcs busting years. We have a lot of work to do.

Pretty much anyone in the AAC other than probably Tulsa and UConn could do this. Certainly the top half all could.

Rice has fans?

In all seriousness. Houston does have to compete for fans with the likes of Texas, Texas Tech, A&M and Baylor (am I missing someone? Oh yeah, TCU).

Granted, there's a lot of people in Texas and in Houston, but in regards to football, there's a lot of competition that has a lot of history on it's side to compete with. Although, UCF has done pretty well, but winning 24 straight (or close to that) lends itself to lots of bandwagoning so we'll see how they sustain what they had.

If Carey leaves, I think it’s telling of the difference between Mac and aac. Temple, a former bottom feeder MAC program gets into the AAC because of basketball. Now they are in position to hire away the coach of the MAC champions. Big difference is conferences.

How does 25-15 in the MAC make us a bottom feeder?
