RE: Build a dream conference for your school out of G5 teams
Here's my "ideal" G5 league, maximizing both football and basketball strength to become the ultimate tweener conference.

Football Pods

Pods rotate between two 8-team divisions in a 3-year cycle. Conference schedule is 8 games.

Pod 1: Air Force*, Army*, Houston, Navy*
Pod 2: Appalachian State*, Central Florida*, South Florida*, Temple
Pod 3: Boise State, BYU, San Diego State, Utah State
Pod 4: Cincinnati, Memphis, Toledo*, Western Michigan*

* = FB only

Basketball Pods

Each team plays its pod mates twice and all others once for an 18-game schedule.

Northeast: Cincinnati, Connecticut, Dayton, Temple
Northwest: Boise State, BYU, Gonzaga, Utah State
Southeast: Houston, Memphis, VCU, Wichita State
Southwest: New Mexico, San Diego State, St. Mary's, UNLV

RE: Build a dream conference for your school out of G5 teams
Take out Kent St and Eastern Michigan. Add UCONN and UMASS and I'm good. The MAC is a solid-enough Conference.

I guess you could do:
Western Michigan
Northern Illinois
Cincannati
UCONN
UMASS
Temple
Marshall
Central Michigan
Western Kentucky
Appalachian St
Miami Ohio
Buffalo

Would be a nice MidWest/New England/East Coast conference.

RE: Build a dream conference for your school out of G5 teams
Idea is a semi-realistic league that prioritizes close regionality, like schools, and good basketball. Obviously no ODU fan would turn down the opportunity to be in a conference with the likes of UCONN, Navy, Cincy, etc.

East
UMass
Temple
Marshall
JMU
ODU
ECU

West
Ohio
WKU
MTSU
App State
Charlotte
UAB

Non-football
VCU
and 1 more non-football. Take your pick (George Mason, Richmond, Davidson, Dayton)

Or a 16 team conference. 4 4-team pods, 9 game schedule 3-2-2-2. Everyone plays in Florida every year.

Cincinnati
Connecticut
Memphis
Temple

Mid-Atlantic
-----
App State
ECU
Marshall
ODU

Military
-----
Air Force - Football only
Army - Football only
Navy - Football only
VMI - Football only

Ohio

UAB
Georgia State
Charlotte

Florida Atlantic

If it was permitted I'd add in Dayton/VCU to go to 11 in basketball with the idea it would be a 2-3 NCAA bid league.

I like yours a lot. Since we have all of G5 to choose from I’ll widen my options:

Houston
Tulane
Memphis
UAB
Georgia State
USF
————
UCF
Charlotte
ECU
Old Dominion
Cincinnati
Temple

RE: Build a dream conference for your school out of G5 teams
16-team all-sports conference for the American. Four pods to make scheduling organized.

******************************************
West Pod

Code:
Boise State
Utah State
Fresno State
San Diego State

Central Pod

Code:
Houston
SMU
Tulsa
Memphis

South Pod

Code:
UCF
USF
East Carolina
UAB

North Pod

Code:
Cincinnati
Ohio
Temple
Connecticut
******************************************

Football scheduling would be two 8-team divisions consisting of the West/Central Pods to form the West Division, and the North/South Pods to form the East Division. Seven division games, plus a game from an opponent in each of the West pods.

Code:
Example football schedule for UCF.

@Stanford - OOC
FAU - OOC
@Pittsburgh- OOC
UAB
ECU
@Ohio
@Fresno State - WEST POD
Temple
@UConn
Memphis - CENTRAL POD
Cincinnati
@USF

Basketball scheduling would be a 18-game conference slate based on your pod. You play 1 matchup against each of the other pods' teams, home-and-away games with your podmates, and those matchups outside of your pod would rotate home or away each season.

All other sports would send teams to the post-season based on individual pod performance and overall conference standings.

I like the G5 the way it is, but I'd take SBC/CUSA east divisions in one conference and west divisions in another.

I like building a conference out of historical and regional rivalries. Keeping the conference relatively geographically contained should also reduce travel expenses, encourage away game fans, and build budding rivalries. I think that's a good plan for long-term stability. I'm not familiar with Marshall-WKU, but okay. CCU-Temple? Huh?

I think it was supposed to be a slight lol.

No slight intended. To be honest I don’t know who Temple’s rival is... Rutgers? Nova? The only reason they are listed beside CCU is there were no other teams “I wanted in my imaginary conference” that were a Temple rival or neighbor. CCU is an old Liberty rival and a destination vacation area. As far as WKU is concerned, I could have put MTSU, and it would have fit my regional team with a rival, but I simply prefered Marshall over them, even though there is little history between WKU and MU. If there was an FBS team in Nashville, other than Vandy, I would have chosen them.

Ditch UMASS for Temple. Problem fixed.

Temple is a way better football program than UMASS and basketball is about the same.

The SunBelt and CUSA overlapping makes little sense other then the conferences to try to have as big of a geographic market as they can.

Dream conference means I don’t have to be super realistic nor pay for my team being there.

I’m going to keep one foot in reality and leave AAC alone.

The National Conference.

WEST
Wyoming
Colorado State
Air Force
New Mexico
UTEP

EAST
Arkansas State
Southern Miss
UAB
Louisiana
North Texas
