UCLA played at Texas A&M 2 years ago. Not sure when the travel rules came into play.

Cal has games at TCU in '21 and at North Texas in '22. I doubt they schedule those games if they thought travel might be in jeopardy.

Rather than wondering how the Pac-12 raids someone else, the thought process should be based around who can raid Pac-12 and what does that look like.

Anything Pac-12 does is always going to difficult because the meat and taters of the league is USC, UCLA, Cal, and Stanford. I'm not claiming there is not significant value in the other 8 members, just that if you ask the other 8 who they want to play, those four are high on the list.

The Pac-12 isn't getting paid like their peers and have been in a success slump where it matters in the two primary revenue sports.

Congratulations KU, KState, Iowa State and West Virginia. You join Big 12 North with Cal and Stanford in football and their two permanent cross-over games are USC and UCLA (good luck winning the north Cal and Stanford, unless you are the unfortunate stuck with OU and Texas as your crossover games).

That's just a fast spit ball

But I think it is far more likely that Big XII can create a situation to raid the Pac-12 than vice versa, likewise far easier for Big 10 to create a Pac-12 raid than vice versa.

The Pac-12 reported revenue of $509 million last year. The Big 12 reported revenue of $371 million. The Big 12 is not going after the Pac-12. The Pac-12 has an expense problem. They reported $138 million in expenses. They obviously need to reduce their expenses.

There is no Pac-12 expansion strategy that works without addressing the expense issues first and any expansion with the Big 12 starts and ends with the University of Texas. UT would have to let go of the Longhorn Network, which they are not going to do. So this is going nowhere.

A good chunk of those expenses are the costs of their network, so those revenue numbers are inflated when comparing to the Big 12. The distributions by the Big 12 were $4 million higher not even considering the individual Tier III revenues.

RE: PAC Expansion Strategy
Give UT and OU an ND-like deal.

They play eachother (1 game) plus the SW schools (4 games) in FB for 5 games. The remaining 7 games must include 4 P5 opponents for 9 P5 total.

The original PAC8 play eachother (7 games) plus 2 SW schools for 9 games.

The SW play eachother (3 games), UT, OU, and half the PAC 8 for 9 games.

UT and OU are eligible to win the eastern division because the play a full round-robin divisional schedule. No Pacific Time Zone games though.

I think the current rules require the divisions to be as balanced as possible, so you either need a rule change or you need one division of 7 and the other division of 8.

So, also invite Kansas in the ND-ACC type deal. Place the three newbies with the SW schools into the 7-team division.

WEST: USC, UCLA, Stanford, Cal, Oregon, OSU, Washington, Wazzu
EAST: Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Arizona St.

Require the newbies to only play 6 conference games and they're still eligible for the PAC 15 championship game. The legacy SW schools still get 3 cross-division games - stack the schedules so that they play in California most years. Move the CCG and conference headquarters to Vegas to save on operational costs (and taxes).

For Olympic sports, you have four scheduling pods - to ensure regional schools play home-away each season - rotate through the rest for an 18 game schedule:

Northwest -Washington, Wazzu, Oregon, OSU
Pacific - USC, UCLA, Stanford, Cal
Mountain - Arizona, ASU, Utah, Colorado
East - Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas
