Owls lead 12-6 after a low-scoring 1st quarter. Erica O is playing.

We just really can't shoot the ball on the road.

At least not the three, 1-11. 5-7 from inside the arc.

Our offense is just so slow and doesn’t put any pressure on the defense. Lazy passing and just lethargic overall. Just a dreadful 1st half. Would love to see us play uptempo.

Presented without comment, here are our offensive breakdowns:
On the road: 42.6% FG (36.4% 1H, 49.4% 2H), 31.9% 3PT (27.1% 1H, 36.8% 2H)
At home: 47.8% FG (54.0% 1H, 40.2% 2H), 36.8% 3PT (44.2% 1H, 27.9% 2H)
It becomes worse on the road when you take out the Little Rock game:
39.9% FG (31.8% 1H, 48.6% 2H), 27.5% 3PT (21.2% 1H, 34.0% 2H)
Unrelated, I'm being told starting the 3rd quarter on an 18-1 run is actually good.

Well, the home opponents have been a regular list of tomato cans. Per Massey, the toughest opponent was SMU (ranked 213). The remaining home opponents are ranked 245, 306, 395, and 733.
Opponents on the road are 27, 48, 150, 336, and 560. (And neutral sites 65, 178.)
Southern Miss is 251. Rice is currently 100.

Sure, we've definitely played more difficult teams on the road/neutral. No argument there. But we've followed roughly the same pattern against PVAMU, Incarnate Word, and now Southern Miss, three not so good teams. We also just seem to operate more freely at home. Which could also very well just be confirmation bias.

Yes, the half time adjustment was to run the offense through Mulkey, and she responded. Now up 48 - 38 with 5:13 left to play. Mulkey with 17 points on 9-11 shooting. Few teams are going to be able to stop her in the post, so long as we can get the ball to her without turning the ball over.

Missed FTs, turnovers, and OREBs the story of the game so far. Rice just 7-13 from the line, S. Miss with 17 pts off turnovers, and S. Miss with 14 OREBs. Still Rice 54-45.

58-47 final. Did anybody watch the game? I'm curious whether S. Miss played their bigs primarily on the perimeter forcing Mulkey out of the paint. She finished with only 1 rebound and 1 block, which is odd.

18-1 run in the 3rd leads to an 11 pt. Win. Flashes of good play in the 2nd half but overall another less than impressive outing. Getting some home games would help as the team has been on the road for the bulk of the season.

They did. The whole offense was perimeter based.

We outscored them 24 - 8 in the paint. USM's gameplan was to shut down Erica, which they largely did (only 8 points on only 7 FG attempts, but a team-leading 9 rebounds). Mulkey (18 points) and Nicole (9 points) both scored most of their point down low. Jasmine Smith (15 points) closed the game out scoring 6 of our final 8 points. We shot 50% from the field (vs. 33% for USM) and had a season-high 19 assists (vs. 13 TOs). Thanks to Mulkey's presence, teams are going to get burned down low if they focus on stopping Erica. This is the main difference from last year. If we can stay healthy, and keep turnovers in check, we should be in good shape the rest of the way.
