ECU fans, what's the concensus? Good hire or not

Very good hire. He was offered a LB coaching position on the new staff but decided to go elsewhere to be a DC. We will take him back hopefully soon. (ECU grad)

Ditto. He could come in and save BW's hide. Our defense average at best and mostly bad for a decade.

Tremendous hire IMO. He took worst D in the nation and made it respectable at times. Really wish we could have kept him because he would have kept us in that upward trajectory. Not that coach Trott isn't capable it's just that Blackwell is one of our own & took a major risk by teaming up with coach Mo last year. He bleeds purple and gold.

At Jacksonville St he routinely had one of the best defenses in the nation. He held #6 Auburn to only 13 points until the last minute of regulation a few years ago.

I like this hire.

Good hire for ODU. Hated to see him go. ODU's defense will improve.

One thing that Blackwell did that stood out to me was... he didn't watch ANY film of the ECU defense from the season before he got the job. That was the year we finished dead last in the country in defense. He said he didn't want to have ANY sort of pre-conceived notions about our players, and he would make all of his assumptions and decisions in person, based on how they practiced. It seemed to work. We got thin and hurt later in the year, but overall, our defense took a tremendous step forward with Blackwell at the helm.

David Blackwell will do great things at ODU. He is a great guy and a great coach.

If he helps ya'll beat the Chokies again I'll be forever greatful.
