Think you have to throw Cincy and Syracuse into the debate. 4 wins in 2017 to 11 and 10 wins in 2018.

Army had a great year no doubt. But they went from 10-3 last year to 11-2 this year. Cincinnati and Syracuse both went 4-8 last year to 11-2 and 10-3, respectively.

Baylor 1-11 to 7-6.

Mississippi St. lost. NCSU got destroyed. Don't think either is ranked, but the bottom 5 get tough. There have to be some 5 loss teams. Think Iowa St. may actually move up with a loss since so many above lost to unranked teams while they lost by failing on a two point conversion to a higher ranked team. I do think there will be 5 SEC teams in the top 10. But hard to figure out in what order they put UGA, LSU, FL and UK. A&M probably ends up in top 15.

RE: Final Rankings?
Here's mine

1/2 Alabama: 14-0
1 /2 Clemson: 14-0

3 Oklahoma: 12-2 (lost to Alabama)
4 Ohio State: 13-1 (beat Washington)
5 Notre Dame: 12-1 (lost to Clemson)
6 Florida: 10-3 (beat Michigan)
7 Georgia: 11-3 (lost to Texas)
8 LSU: 10-3 (Beat UCF)
9 Washington: 10-4 (lost to Ohio State)
10 Washington State: 11-2 (beat Iowa State)
11 Texas: 10-4 (Beat Georgia)
12 Kentucky: 10-3 (beat Penn State)
13 Michigan: 10-3 (lost to Florida)
14 UCF: 12-1 (lost to LSU)
15 Penn State: 9-4 (lost to Kentucky)
16 Texas A&M: 9-4 (beat NC State)
17 Syracuse: 10-3 (beat West Virginia)
18 Fresno State: 12-2 (beat Arizona State)
19 Northwestern: 9-5 (beat Utah)
20 Iowa 9-4 (beat Mississippi State)
21 West Virginia 8-4 (lost to Syracuse)
22 Iowa State 8-5 (lost to Washington State)
23 Utah: 9-5 (lost to Northwestern)
24 Stanford: 9-4 (beat Pitt)
25 Oregon: 9-4 (beat Michigan State)

I wanted to drop Notre Dame more, but Georgia and Michigan losing and not looking good losing, along with UCF losing put the brakes on at the #5 spot. I just could not elevate a 3 loss Florida above them. Texas and Florida were my biggest risers. Michigan and UCF were my biggest drops.

OU and tOSU are very close on the 3/4 slot. Neither is within shouting distance of #1 and #2.

This sorting of the SEC teams wouldn't surprise me because people seem enamored with Michigan and overweight the bowl games. I think the Peach simply demonstrated what I suspected all along, that Michigan was vastly overrated. I would have it UGA #6, LSU #8, UK #9, Florida #10, but I suspect they will rank UK the lowest of the 4.

Georgia won the SEC East by 2 games, dominated Florida and Kentucky while losing in a similar way to LSU and Texas and also lost to Alabama giving them their only real challenge this season. Florida was dominated by Georgia, Kentucky and Missouri. Their good wins were Michigan and LSU. Kentucky got dominated by Georgia and Tennessee and lost a close one at A&M. They beat Florida and Penn St.

Final Rankings?
Boise should still be in there somewhere, they shouldn’t be punished because of a bowl’s incompetence.

RE: Final Rankings?
so looking at the AP top 25 going into the bowls.....

1 Alabama
2 Clemson
3 Notre Dame lost
4 Oklahoma lost
5 Ohio St won
6 Georgia lost
7 UCF lost
8 Michigan lost
9 Washington lost
10 Florida won
11 LSU won
12 Washington St won
13 Penn St lost
14 Texas won
15 West Virginia lost
16 Kentucky won
17 Syracuse won
18 Miss St lost
19 Fresno St won
20 Utah lost
21 Texas A&M won
22 Army won
23 Boise dnp
24 Missouri lost
25 Iowa St lost
26 Northwestern won
27 Utah St won
28 NC State lost
29 Cincy won
30 Stanford won
31 App St won
32 UAB won
32 Iowa won
34 Oregon won
35 Troy won

I suspect that Utah, Missouri, and Iowa St will fall out. Northwestern will definitely move into the top 25. The other 2 spots- I think are between Utah St, Cincy, Stanford maybe, App St, and UAB.....

as far as top 12 with what we had going into this...
1/2 Alabama/Clemson
3 Ohio St
4 Oklahoma
5 Oklahoma
6 Florida
7 Notre Dame
8 LSU
9 Georgia
10 Washington St
11 Texas
12 UCF

I put weight on the computers and while they have Boise 3rd among G5, they do not crack the top 30. They really lack a quality win, while Fresno had four of them over Cal, ASU, Boise and SDSU (well as quality as you can get in G5).

Stanford and Oregon are definitely better than Boise State (eye test ... I live in the west so see these schools play, no question Boise is overrated) and they beat better opponents than Boise State was facing in the cancelled game. And yes that extra data point pushed them ahead of the Broncos, whether fair or not.

I only dropped Georgia behind Florida, whom I thought they were better than and beat, for their terrible performance against Texas, combined with Florida's dismantling of Michigan. That is the only shuffle I had in order of the SEC. I do not think that is greater than any regular season shuffle. Georgia looked bad, but not as bad as Michigan or UCF (who also made a comeback in garbage time). To me it was similar to the loss tOSU took to Purdue. That cost tOSU 6 spots. This loss by Georgia cost them only 3 in my book.

Bowl games due carry more weight because teams have a month to prepare, and also because they face quality opponents. Beating Rutgers, Vandy, KU, Arizona or BC in the last week doesn't do much for a P5 school. But everyone facing a quality opponent introduces some volatility.

But hey, look at my "massive" shifts:

1/2 Alabama and Clemson (no change)
3 OU (jump of 1 my book, jump of 1 spot from CFP rankings) // Georgia's poor showing caused rise
4 tOSU (jump of 1 in my book, jump of 1 spot in CFP rankings) // Georgia's poor showing caused rise
5 ND (rise of 1 in my book, drop of 2 in CFP rankings) // Georgia's poor showing caused rise in my book, limited drop in CFP
6 Florida (rise of 1 in my book, rise of 5 in CFP rankings ... CFP had them lower than they should have been)
7 Georgia (drop of 3 in my book, no change in CFP rankings)
8 LSU (rise of 2 in my book, rise of 2 in CFP rankings)
9 Washington (drop of 1 in my book, no change in CFP ranking)
10 Washington State (rise of 2 in my book, rise of 2 in CFP rankings)
11 Texas (rise of 4 in my book, rise of 4 in CFP ... Georgia is a high quality win, hence the big move)

I think your claim that I had unreasonable tectonic plate level shifts is unfounded.

At 12-1, with its only loss being in the playoffs to the #2 ranked team?

Oklahoma will not be ranked ahead of Ohio State or Notre dame.

Florida/Georgia/LSU will be interesting. I say Florida, then LSU, then Georgia. Georgia's loss will put them behind both teams, even Florida who they beat.

I agree with you on Oklahoma vs Ohio St. I'm not as sure about them vs Notre Dame. Especially if Alabama clobbers Clemson....

Florida/Georgia/LSU is a very interesting triangle. Florida beat LSU. LSU beat Georgia. LSU beat Florida. All have 3 losses. I suspect it'll be Florida/LSU/Georgia based on the bowl results.

That could be. Then again Georgia does have one more win and won a conference division which the other two didn't.

It will be interesting.

LSU was without 9 defensive starters and UCF OL was still mauled. Sorry not a Top 10 team...#12 sounds about right

I think it will be Florida/Georgia/LSU based on bowl results. But I've seen them all play. Florida isn't in the same league as UGA and LSU even though they do have that win at home over LSU. Florida is the 6th best team in the SEC. A&M isn't getting much respect because they have 4 losses, but they gave Clemson and Alabama their closest games of the regular season. They beat LSU and UK. But they lost on the road at MSU and Auburn. UK isn't getting much respect because this is football season. Even though they don't have the talent of the other 5, they play very sound football and do what they need to do so they are a good team. They dominated Florida.

It amazing that people's narrative for LSU is that the Tigers weren't even trying hard since they were without 15 starters and let UCF score late (or at all, for that matter). The difference in the game was 4 big passing plays by LSU vs. two dropped TDs and stupidly not kicking a FG in the 2nd quarter by UCF. The game was close -- stats lie (555 yards to 250). UCF had ample opportunity to win the game.

IIRC, UCF was extremely lucky to score that last TD. UCF had second and 15 from their own 20, and their QB was sacked back at the 5. But LSU was hit with two personal foul penalties after the play, both of which were enforced, so instead of UCF having 3rd and 30 from their own 5 yard line, they had 1st and 10 from midfield.

That 'drive' should have ended with a punt from like their own 10 yard line, not a TD.

Just saying that wasn't garbage time.

That's what I saw. But in fairness to UCF, losing a great QB makes a difference. More than losing 9 defensive starters when you have the depth of an LSU.

RE: Final Rankings?
So we have to overrate UCF because they don't have elite depth?

Their fans have been chirping how they deserve to be in the CFB playoff. And of course they are the reigning national champs.

RE: Final Rankings?
3rd will be close between Ohio St. and OU. Ohio St. won their bowl, but they still have that ugly loss. And OU's loss to Texas looks better after the Sugar Bowl. Ohio St.'s getting stomped by Purdue looks even worse after the Music City Bowl and their win over Michigan is no longer as impressive.

Notre Dame will be 5th. There's nobody who can be justified jumping over them but OU and Ohio St.

UCF drops a lot because they got dominated up front even though they kept the game close. Probably 14th. They stay ahead of PSU, but fall behind UK.
