If it sucks prior to conference play, slicing & dicing it up won't matter.

The bigger picture here is if it doesn’t suck for a couple of teams OOC this gives them a chance for another marquee win or two.

I agree raising the conference profile ooc is key, but to do that we have to actually win games. That’s the biggest thing we’ve been missing.0

The committee will say hey this team finished with wins over the 78th, 92nd and 115th ranked team. They definitely deserve a bid. 03-lmfao

If nothing else, assuming UAB makes it to the top pod, it gives you a couple home games against the best teams in the conference. Last season worked out pretty well, but in theory this avoids 2016-2017 season issue where UAB finished its final few games against squads with 200+ KenPom rankings. Just speaking from a fan level.

RE: UAB Basketball Schedule Question
Another thing I detest about this “outside the box” crap.

Let’s say three teams end up tied for fourth after the set scheduled portion. Some sort of tiebreaker is going to put two of those teams in the top pod and one team in the second pod. That team could end the season with a top four record, but be forced into the 6th seed because of a tiebreaker in the middle of the season.

There is a slim chance this helps a team get a bid, but there are numerous likelihoods that it screws somebody.

Probably doesn’t make a difference either way but it doesn’t detest me. At least they tried something. I think the % it screws someone is slight less than it helps and both are tiny. As someone said above it’s a moving target. As soon as someone tweaks it to get an extra team in they change the criteria. Football has infected basketball in the way non power teams are being treated but at least we get a shot.

RE: UAB Basketball Schedule Question
& without knowing what it is right now or where to look, exactly how many teams in CUSA would make the tournament today if it were held today?

Take that number add in at least 4 to 6 conference losses for each team and make a guestimate as to how many still would make it as an at large bid.

It was probably a case where the CUSA officials, AD's & commish wanted to make it appear like they were doing something without doing something.

The "who have they played" is public record for all to see. The "who has refused to play them when invited/asked" is a secret known only to AD insiders. As long as power teams are never penalized for avoiding the better G5 teams in favor of the weakest ones (always played as "home games"), this situation will prevail.
