Funny stuff from your game with Samford...Scott Padgett to Karl Hess- “are you stepping to me?”

Another take on Hess via Deadspin.

RE: Official Game Thread: Samford
Samford is printing out t-shirts of Padgett's "Are you stepping to me" quote and giving them out during their game on the 17th. Hilarious. I would buy that shirt as an ETSU fan.

Just to be clear...…….Walker, Coleman and Cunningham were all graduate transfers. Cunningham's situation was a little different in that he got ill early last year, and was awarded an extra year of eligibility, but chose to graduate early and then wanted to go back to his home state and have a chance to play in the Dance. Walker's case is quite odd, in that due to his injury last year, he was also granted an extra year of eligibility, so will have TWO years to play with the Wolfpack.

You may have put your finger on why so many transfers under Padgett — a chance to play in the Dance (implying a lack of faith that Padgett can get them there).

6-0

I went back and looked, 3 of those OT games have been versus Samford. The others were Mercer, Citadel and Furman.

Or the odds are much much MUCH better, SoCon is 1 bid league, can dominate all year, 1 slip up and you are NIT bound, NC State, Louisville, Arizona, have a winning record and be 500 in conference and you got a really good shot at going.

So Hess or TV Teddy? (Valentine) the worst? I always have detested Teddy , he was bad, knew he was bad, didn't care and was cocky AF about it.

Edit: come to think of it, Hess is pretty much the same way.

Hess is the worst and Valentine is a close second. Sirmons is 3rd. We as fans should not know the ref's names but we do unfortunately.

Maybe Sammie has top-notch stats and probability teachers.

Since players for every other team in the SoCon are in the same boat, the point is, it's Samford that keeps losing their best players.

Well, at least, our court and logo are getting some national exposure because of the Hess/Padgett playground spat. "High Noon" and "Highly Questionable," two ESPN afternoon shows which place a high value on making snarky takes on sport related events made the "confrontation" a segment of their shows. No real mention of the game, of course; that's not what those shows are about. The most amusing thing about the video that they showed of the "incident" was the other two refs glancing over their shoulders as Hess charges towards Padgett and they just keep walking towards the other sideline. Also amusing was one of the host's remembrance of somebody he knew responding to a question about how long Hess had been a ref. "Well, I can remember my grandmother telling Karl Hess to go to h**l and she has been dead since 1996," the person replied.

Every team including ETSU is losing players, one thing that helps us in the past some of our best have already tried it a higher level.

Interview yesterday with Coach Forbes on College Hoops Watch.

http://collegehoopswatch.com/2019/01/03/...ve-forbes/

No revelations, mostly complimentary Q & A. The one thing that I found interesting was Forbes bringing up yet again the perceived or actual criticism of the age of his teams (transfers and junior college players). He pointed out as he did the last night in his post game interview that the team is starting a freshman and 2 sophomores and if things worked out he could start another sophomore. Possibly a subtle dig at his avowed "friend" Mike Young.

Hess was at it again at the Wofford-Mercer game last night, injecting himself into the action. He T’d up both coaches and went jaw to jaw with Mike Young in one exchange. I would say it’s time for Hess to retire, but this guy has always been this way so I will say he never should have been a ref in the first place. You can find quite a few YouTube clips on him and when you’re a ref, that is not a good thing. What’s funny is that after the game, Mike Young tweeted that he is fine with Hess and that he’d be okay if Hess did all Wofford games. I don’t know if this is supposed to be sarcasm or if Mike is just trying to say the correct, ahem “PC” thing. In any event I don’t believe it for a second...Mike doesn’t want to see this guy any more than any other coach!

I wish Wofford would get some JUCO players as I think it could help the team be even better. I think Mike Young would like to as well and could even be secretly a bit envious of schools that do. But I always hear that in many cases their JUCO classes won’t transfer in to Wofford and they can’t be admitted as students and crap like that. We seem to have so many more transfer OUT to JUCOs than transfer in...in fact my best friend went to Wofford with me but transferred to Spartanburg Methodist JC after a semester...I still give him good-natured hell for that. And one of your players, Kevon Tucker, started out at Wofford but then transferred out to a JUCO...Someone told me he was struggling academically and was about to be declared ineligible by the NCAA...but the guy wasn’t getting much playing time either so that was probably a big part of it as well. But I hope Kevon does well at ETSU; he’s really a fine young man.

I enjoy it when Tucker can get into a game. He is a hard nosed defender and the threes that he shoots I think are especially surprising and effective because you tend to think that he won't dare take that type of shot with his limited playing time, but, then again, Forbes always says that his players have the green light to shoot.
