I just heard this afternoon on the radio a live interview with someone named Jerry Palm, who appears to be some sort of bracket prognosticator, that UNCG, at least according to him, is still one of the last teams that could make the NCAA tournament. I'm not sure how that would work out for the Bucs getting into the NIT (by this time I think that they are pretty much a lock for the CIT and up to a point I would rather see them there than the NIT as it could more probably mean a home game or two).

I don't mean to keep editing this, but Dan Gavitt, who I gathered from the brief moment that I saw him on CBS tournament coverage as I was walking past the TV, said that a couple of mid-major, non tournament winners, not season champions might make the NCAA tournament which elicited a "Wow" from one of the hosts.

The Pomeroy Ratings have a category for luck, and UNCG is rated as the luckiest team in America (by a wide margin). The ratings are based on actual wins vs. expected wins, but if UNCG makes the big dance, they may really be "the luckiest team in America."

The top 8 teams all made the NCAA field. **7** of them won at least one game (including Belmont in the play-in round, who then *barely* lost to Maryland) . (N. Mex. St. at #7 *barely* lost to Final Four-Auburn at the buzzer.) #9 Vermont played Fl. St. very close. #12 St. Mary's played 'nova very close. #15 Yale gave LSU all they could handle. #23 Northern KY was only down 3 to Final Four-Texas Tech early in the second half. Even #25 Gardner-Well led Virginia at the half.
And #16 Lipscomb may now win the NIT.

Northeastern, Georgia St., Montana, and Abilene Christian (who in no way deserved a 15 seed over Iona) didn't fare as well - but none of them were in the top 10.

I don't have any data to go on, other than memory, but I don't recall as many of the top teams in the Mid-Major poll *ever* coming close to this level of success in The Dance. Hopefully more of the pundits (and "deciders") will observe this fact for future reference.
