kick returns
Why doesn't NIU return kickoffs? Any other teams that just take it at the 25 every time?

Interesting point. So what percentage of kick-offs not kicked into the endzone did the Huskies fair catch?

NIU's rule is if it is inside the 5 yard line, you have to fair catch.
I watched Ohio St and Michigan and they were fair catching kickreturns. I do not agree with it at all but it is a trend that is growing more and more.

I heard it has to do with cybermetric bullsh*t. The math says it is better to fair catch the ball and get it at the 25 yard line. But it does not account for momentum (which is very big in football) and energy of what a big return does to your team.

It also depends on who you are playing. Or it should.

RE: kick returns
I would tend to agree, with our offensive struggles this year, seems like we should be taking more of a shot at kick returns to break one. At the same time, there's the risk in getting a holding penalty and all of a sudden you're inside you're own 15.

You want kick returns now? Some people are never happy.

We didn’t have TLL or Argeros Turner so I didn’t have a problem with it.

That is a sign of the times, not just at NIU, but everywhere. Pro and college football are trying to do away with collisions due to punt and kick returns.
