I think Fick will stick around until that special job comes calling, and I think he needs a couple more years like this year before that happens. OSU could call Freeman later this week...just my hunch.

I spent most of the game yesterday wondering if Freeman had already agreed to another job elsewhere, and was just mailing it in for our bowl game. The defensive effort seemed pretty poor throughout the game, no swagger or fire. It wasn't the same defense that held Navy to zero points. There were some awesome heroics from a few such as Wiggins and Wright, and we won the game, so I'm not trying to be a Negative Nelly... but breaking down film after a win is just as important as after a loss.

I still hope we hang onto Freeman of course, because yesterday was definitely the exception to an otherwise great defensive season.

Live, It seemed like VA Tech was a lot bigger. I assumed that had something to do with the struggles .

I agree with this. I didn't think the D mailed it in...nor did Freeman.

Agree with this sentiment.

Let's not forget this was an especially TERRIBLE Navy team. It's pretty easy to put together that this VTech team is significantly more talented, and just plan better than the Navy team we faced.

Sometimes you just have to give credit where credit is due. VTech - though down this year - is still likely more talented than UC, and played us really hard yesterday. We're good, but it's not like we're yet on the level where we can expect to shut down equally talented (or more talented) teams.

VT’s issue this year was not their offense, it was their defense. They struggled mightily against the run all year.

Plus VT was really young, but loaded with talent. They matured as the season went and had a long time to prepare and work out kinks and add some wrinkles. They will likely be a top 25 team next season, as should we. That was a good win and should help our team out quite a bit.

RE: Keeping Our Head Coach - Mike Bohn's #1 Priority!
Bump. So Dana Holgorsen signed with Houston for 5 years at $4M a clip ($1M buyout). He went 61-41 (33-30 B12) in eight seasons at West Virginia but only 2-5 in bowl games and finished the season with a Top 25 ranking twice. Sounds a few ticks above He Who Shall Not Be Named factoring in his Texas Tech record. Dana gets a raise leaving West Virginia to become the highest paid non-P5 coach ever. Here's how he ranks now with the raise...

2018 Coaching Salaries Ranking (assistant pool)

#24 Dana Holgorsen, Houston - $4.0M
#32 Dana Holgorsen, West Virginia - $3.6M ($3.447M)
#34 PJ Fleck, Minnesota - $3.55M ($3.32M)
#37 Matt Campbell, Iowa St - $3.5M ($2.982M)
#42 Pat Narduzzi, Pittsburgh - $3.017M (?)
#48 Mike Norvell, Memphis - $2.6M ($2.635M)
#58 Ken Niumatalolo, Navy - $2.163M (?)
#60 Luke Fickell, Cincinnati - $2.0M ($2.425M)
#61 Kevin Sumlin, Arizona - $1.6M/$2.0M ($3.155)
#65 Tom Allen, Indiana - $1.83M ($3.104M)
#67 Major Applewhite, Houston - $1.75M ($2.136M)
#69 Josh Heupel, UCF - $1.7M ($2.365M)
#70 Bryan Harsin, Boise St - $1.65M ($2.345M)
#71 Willie Fritz, Tulane - $1.629M (?)

I am typing my email to him as we speak and I would encourage others to let him know how you feel about keeping Fick.

Has anyone contacted Bohn via email or phone to let him know how you feel about doing everything possible to keep Fick? Internet keyboard warriors and pissin' and moanin' in threads isn't going to get his attention. It won't take long to either call his office [leave a message] or shoot him an email expressing your enthusiastic support for our head coach and the expectation that UC will not sit idly by the road as other potential suitors approach him for head coaching vacancies - now or next year. Leave the financial planning to the UC administration - focus on your support for keeping BFDF long term. Don't throw up your hands with the "my email or phone call won't matter because we'll just lose him eventually to a bigger dollar school" excuse. I can guarantee you that "cricket sounds" in the background isn't going to get anyone's attention at UC Do it man!

There is zero Bohn can do about the situation. The only reason Fickell is interviewing is P5.

Nothing can stop Luke or any coach if they want to change to another program for money or status or facilities or whatever. We don't know what is going on behind the scenes but it takes 5 minutes to express your opinion. Not a big investment. Bohn is one part of the UC group. If someone knows another higher up then contact them. WVU is not Ohio State or Notre Dame so it's worth the time.

Holder son moved out of WVU, out of P5. That is not good. Why would Fickell take that job?

Do people honestly think Bohn is just sitting there with his **** in his hands hoping CLF will stay? I guarantee Bohn is doing everything in his power to make sure Fick is happy, and will give him the best offer that UC can afford at the moment.

Me sending an email to Bohn or the athletic department wont do anything to change what is already likely going on behind the scenes.

The only thing FB can do to avoid this constant turnover is to either go independent and play a top-droor schedule...and win, or to join the P5.

I have no idea which is more likely to happen.

Our best hope is that our coaches are always in great demand. In truth, what coaches are not poachable. Even at the top of the college ranks there is the lure of the NFL.
