Surprised to read as the West Coast blueblood UCLA only paid $2.6M and only recently started chartering flights. Non-TPC school Wichita beats UCLA on both counts.

I’m pulling for a Bartow miracle run to the NCAA’s followed by job offer.

Either that or Pitino or Pearl in Tinseltown would be entertaining.

Bryce Drew would do well at a blue blood.

Bobby Hurley, but he’ll probably hold out for the Duke gig.

UCLA fans throughout the years have complained the athletic department operates on the cheap. Looks like they were right.

If UCLA wants to get a high profile coach, they’ll need to open those pockets. $4 million minimum.

If UCLA wants to get a high profile coach, they’ll need to open those pockets. $4 million minimum.

UCLA in 2016-2017 had an athletic budget of $104 million. They collected $38 million in private donations in 2016-2017, so they are not operating on the cheap. The money is not the issue.

The salary Alford was getting was very fair. $2.6 million was in the top 25. His salary and "chartered planes" have nothing to do with the performance of the team. The team quit on Alford. Whatever he was selling, they were not buying.

The current UCLA roster has three McDonald's All-Americans and is full of four & five star recruits. There is just no excuse for losing by 15 to Liberty at home, to lose to Belmont at home, or getting blown out by 29 at Cincinnati.

UCLA will pay a coach for potential and performance. I could see them paying $3-4 million per year for a coach like Eric Musselman or Fred Hoiberg.

Money is not an issue at UCLA. They will pay top dollar and they should be able to attract a top shelf coach. The expectations are final four competitor.

Salary and chartered planes have nothing to do with the performance of the team, but they are responsible for attracting blueblood-level coaches.

Which is why they ended up with Steve Alford and not Gregg Marshall - Wichita was committing more than UCLA in both departments.

UCLA’s salary should be competitive with the other bluebloods — Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas.
