Northwestern/Dekalb Cheer
This really pisses me off! Dekalb Highschool cheerleading performing at NU b-ball game over break. I complained in another thread about no dance team or cheerleaders or pep band at the NIU basketball games. People said they are busy with finals and it’s break. My idea was get the Dekalb and Sycamore high school dance team, cheerleaders and pep band to fill in then. They would love to do it also throw them some free tickets so their friends and family can attend. Where is this NIU Dekalb/Sycamore Communiversity? NIU Athletics lets do something come up with some ideas, we have the worst attendance in the MAC for basketball. It’s not all on Monty!

The athletic program under Frazier is in complete free-fall and disarray. Unfortunately he doesn't have a boss, so he can pretty much do whatever he wants.

MD, easy to be a critic. Everyone knows the problems especially with no funds. How about posting solutions? Any ideas?

These things need to be mentioned to staff for there to be solutions. I think the HS performing at NIU games is a great idea. Great way to expose us to local fans that might not show up otherwise. Just like with friends and parents of the NIU band and cheerleaders. Those things put many more butts in the seats.

The ineptitude of our athletic department is mind boggling.

Does NIU do stuff like this? For example the next thing coming up for men. Our athletic department does things like this for many games on both the womans and mens side.

What specific things does Frazier do that a “better” AD would not? Your generalities hold no substance and are nothing but message board fodder.

I go to maybe 3 BB games per year and always buy tickets at the box office minutes before tipoff and maybe wait for a couple people in front of me. I’m not sure we have the attendance to justify opening the box office and paying staff to sit for several hours on game day for a couple of ticket sales. It would be great if we sold out games and there was enough ticket sales to justify opening hours before tip, but that is just not the case and not having the box office open several hours before tip seems like the correct business decision to me.

Dont treat fans like third class citizens, dont push the ESPN deal like it's good for the conference, have the guts and competence to make coaching moves when they need to be made, create transparency with extensions for coaches that do not deserve extensions, listen to fans when they have concerns rather than being a stuck up elitist snob, dont be so quick to whine and blame fan support for all of your own shortcomings. Those are just a few things

I don’t know about that. I think there should be people working early. There’s time I’ve stopped in and it was hard to find someone or the people working couldn’t answer a relatively simple question. If fans want to stop in and ask a question or get tickets early before going to lunch etc, they should have someone there to help them. I know we are low budget but these hinges make a difference when fans decide to return or not.

When you are literally begging for fans to attend your events do not make getting tickets harder. If NIU cannot afford to have one person doing tickets on game day then they seriously need to consider dropping Athletics!

Just extremely frustrating the dire situation this program and conference is in, and it is almost as if nobody cares

Dont treat fans like third class citizens (sounds like someone had a bad experience), dont push the ESPN deal like it's good for the conference (probably the majority of the income generated for the athletic program), have the guts and competence to make coaching moves when they need to be made (in other words, fire the coaches I want fired), create transparency with extensions for coaches that do not deserve extensions (give extensions to the coaches I like), listen to fans when they have concerns rather than being a stuck up elitist snob (again, someone must have had a bad experience), dont be so quick to whine and blame fan support for all of your own shortcomings (looki in the mirror MD). Those are just a few things

Point taken, I probably need to stop posting for awhile, I just am very dismayed about NIU athletics right now. The ship seems like it is sinking right now, and no one seems to even care. I just don't know why those in leadership positions are not looking for answers.
