FAU had a big out of conference victory today over someone. May have been Illinois.

Well, that doesn't seem quite as big now. Beats losing to them though.

WKU has three P5 wins this year but also losses to Troy, Indiana St, and Missouri St. They're talented enough to be an at-large and have the non-conference resume wins against P5 opponents, but those losses will probably keep them out even if the run the table and lose in the CUSA championship game.

UNT has impressed me.

a CUSA team would need to go undefeated to get an at large. That is the reality of it today. The non=power teams are being forced to the CBI and CIT. It's difficult to get an at large to the NIT. never h]thought I would ever say that. You used to have to really suck.

Football mentality continues to infect college basketball in regards to scheduling and post season.

RE: Conference season has started
I think the two best teams are ODU and WKU, although WKU has lost a player for the season, and suspended another indefinitely for a DUI.

I’m not yet convinced on North Texas. Their record has been built on an extremely weak schedule. I watched them in person play UT Arlington and they almost got beat.

My first top 6 right now would be
1. ODU
2. WKU
3. LT
4. North Texas
5. One of the F-U's (all these years, they are still indistinguishable to me)
6. UAB

UAB has a chance to win most home conference games. Right now we are only home dogs against ODU. On the flip side, road victories will be ridiculously difficult this season.

I think Marshall will be up there too.

With a the Freshmen & Sophomores UNT, UTSA & the F_Us put on the floor 2 & 3 years ago, I'm not surprised at their success.

The main driver for P5 take over of both the best bowls and now the NCAA / NIT Tournaments is their desire to dominate any big money (pay out) games leaving the G5 to play the lesser 6 figure bowls and lesser pay out Tournaments (though the P5 wants as many of these as it can get as well). Since the bowls pay out to the conferences, the rich are getting richer by having a virtual monopoly in the 7 (8?) figure pay out bowls and some of the higher 6 figure bowls as well. This may explain why the Big 12 remains at a smaller number since more members might mean smaller shares.
