RE: Illinois State? What?!
I don’t love the match up, but fans love showing up for the in state games. And it’s fun trolling ISU fans in the stadium. For the incoming freshman to come in and see a packed out HUSKIE stadium for their first HUSKIE game. Packed out stadiums got me hooked on HUSKIE football even when they weren’t good.

RE: Illinois State? What?!
I definitely think NIU should rotate among all the in-state FCS schools every year. They bring some fans, our fans are more interested because they have family and friends that went there, we sell more tickets. Win-win. Plus, it'll be nice to kick their teeth in.

The strength of schedule this year shouldn't be the norm. It was necessary because of the state budget. You don't need to play 4 P5 teams on the road to be battle tested. Plus we need home games for the players and fans who are already sacrificing with the weekday games in November. STF should shoot for two P5, a fellow G5 home and home, and an instate FCS at Huskie Stadium.

Agreed with this and the other positive posts.

The poster that started this thread says he roots for NIU, but then says: "Do you really open the 2019 Football Season with Illinois State?" If really a NIU fan he/she would say "we" not "you". Obvious troll.

Sure I am a fake fan.. you got me!
I got more insight to NIU Football than you know buddy. Check any of my previous posts if you consider me a phony. I just did not realize we were playing ISU first game of the season. You guys can pile on. I could give a crap about ISU, I just do not think this game help us, and if it does help us please explain how?

I really liked our 2018 OCC schedule a lot more, it had us battled tested, that is why we kicked ass once we got the the MAC games. But to each their own.

***as far as saying YOU instead of WE , still not sure how that happened but ya, keep your meticulous investigating going.

All of this insight you claim to have and you just now found out about a game that’s been scheduled for a year or so? Yeah, that’s insight.

Nothing wrong in itself scheduling a throw away game with an FCS school given the brutal non conf schedule, but it maybe stings with the whole ESPN deal backdrop. When it's one of only two or three home games fans can attend, it is kind of a bummer. I'm not renewing season tickets for next season, there just isnt any reason to right now

I have no idea how good ISU will be next year... but aren't they just a few years removed from the FCS semi final?

I think a very fair argument is the atmosphere vs EIU in 2013 (even when factoring the JL years premium) vs BC two years ago and Utah this year... we have a very fickle fan base... I think this is great way to get butts in the seats... and has potential to be a good game

I think every thread should also include "Breaking News" like the opening of every news program at the top of the hour.

Huskie fans just deserve more than this being one of three viewable home games

I agree on that. It's up to athletic directors to put an end to this mess though. There are almost no fans left in the entire conference because of the ESPN situation. We are at the highest level of defcon now.

ISUred played in the title game against North Dakota St. ISU scored with a minute something to go but left enough time on the clock for Carson Wentz to drive the Bison down the field for the win. I believe it was the 2015 season.

If NIU thinks this is a throw away game (automatic W) they are dead wrong. ISU will be a formidable opponent that will give the Huskies everything they can handle.

ISUred beat Northwestern the following year. Northwestern finished the season with a top 25 bowl win.

Yeah but ISU has missed the playoffs the last two seasons. Their coach should have jumped ship three years ago. Not saying it will be a cakewalk but this game looked a lot tougher in 2015.

So what, NIU is what 21 - 18 in the same period. The Huskies don't need to look past anyone.

We played WIU in 2016, Attendance was 15,496, it was a nice day too(*). Man I hope we can do a few thousand better for ISU. I am ALL FOR playing in state schools like this to boost Saturday attendance and interest.

Looking ahead to next season and the problems on the horizon, and having to try and get excited for FCS Illinois State , is beyond depressing. NiU will set yet another 20 year low next season for season tickets
